Mandate of Blood

John Kell

When Alexis is sent to Boston, Massachusetts to investigate a series of brutal murders she begins to unravel a conspiracy to overthrow the vampire Ancients.

Alexis Winthrope is not only a vampire, but a Hunter – an enforcer of the Mandate of Blood. Her only peace, in a life she did not asked for, is destroying Rogues - vampires who have broken the law. She performs her duty to preserve the secrecy of her society of the supernatural, from modern humans. This world remains hidden in the dark recesses of human society and is ruled by the race of vampires. On a mission to destroy a Rogue, Alexis is nearly caught in a trap that she suspects was set by the Rogue’s twin brother, Stanislav. Pushing Ming - the leader of the Hunters - to investigate the conspiracy, Alexis is instead sent to Boston Massachusetts to investigate a series of supernatural killings. Part of a Triad of Hunters, Alexis is joined by René and Nikita where they meet with the unwelcoming Guardian of the colony, Jean-François. He offers them little information other than sending them to the vampire run night club The Ebon Light where Alexis meets a human with a very interesting gift.

Hello John, enjoyed what I read - vampires are the in thing - perhaps you might glance at mine and comment - I have backed yours.

More vampires!? And how come they're all named Vladimir. Oh well. You write with cold precision; sharp, vivid details that really bring your story to hot, breathing life. Love the fact there is a murder investigation in this vampire story. WL.

Hello John,

I am not very much into this genre, but the eerily disturbing story is compelling in a curious way. I enjoyed the two chapters read and find the characterization splendid. Descriptions were vivid and dialogue and narrative made this story a smooth read. Rightly shelved.

All the best.

I usually read a couple chapters before reviewing, but the first chapter is such a wild ride, filled with so much action that I'll need to take a break ;-) Very well written so that you can see vividly what is going on in the scene. Love Alexis's character. She'll be fun to follow through the book.

I've definitely gotta shelve this story and will be back to read and review more later.

Hi John,

Great opening. The suspense pulled me in. I was immediately drawn into Alexis’ world. I love a good vampire book and this did not disappoint.

Great characterisation, the characters felt real and the dialogue was believable.

This is very well written and exciting. The story flew off the pages and was a joy to read.

Shelved!

Shinzy :)

Vampires? ... again? .... thank God you can write them or I would have been the first to put a stake in this! Since you have some action, tightened up the flow, structure. I write thrillers so I know about this type of novel. You are shelved. When you get a chance, if you could read/comment (possibly back/shelve my book) I would appreciate your feedback in my comments section.
Cheers!

This reminds me a bit of Underworld. The brave Alexis, fighting with bladed weapons against the ancient vampire.
The writing needs a few changes. In the action scenes, you need to make the sentences shorter, make sure you don't use 'and' and use the words 'left ' and 'right' more often because it helps with visualising the strokes.
I like this because the writing is good and the story is exciting.
Best,
Fred
