Chucks

Renee Reznicsek

When Charlie discovers he can make copies of himself at will, he finds more adventure, and trouble, than any twelve-year-old could hope for.

When twelve-year-old Charlie develops the ability to make exact duplicates of himself, he takes full advantage and enjoys life while his copies do his homework, babysit his sister and go to detention for him. But when a “Chuck” disappears, Charlie finds out the hard way that what happens to one happens to all and he must fight to keep his secret out of the hands of a nemesis who threatens Charlie, his family and the world.

What a fun story this is! Normally, I do not read children's fiction (teen fiction - and mostly romance - is usually as young as I go), but your pitch intrigued me, so I decided to give it a go. So far, I'm really enjoying it! I love how Charlie's mom names her children after her favorite scientists. And I couldn't help but chuckle when Charlie explained how he'd almost been named "Mel Gibson". Too cute!

I can definitely see young readers gobbling this up. What I've read of it so far is well written and extremely entertaining. I'm very happy to place this on my shelf!

this is an assured, entertaining piece of writing .

your premise is great, being able to clone yourself opens up so much potential for YA mayhem .

you've got the voice spot on .

the running joke with kids and pets named after famous scientists is good - charles darwin, marie curie, da vinci . . .

"the other me was gone." - well, yes . we all knnow that feeling, and wish it could sometimes come true.. .

i spotted a rogue ' when you first intro's mr mason, where it says h'e working on it now, makes it look like the conversation's going on when it's not . zap that ' !

shelved, and wishing you well with it .

Renee,
Holy Christmas! It's another me. This is fabulous writing and a great story plot. I spilled a tube of sulfuric acid when I took chemistry, peeeeweee, but that's another story. Charlie makes a great character and Stinky Marie, too funny. I love your youthful writing voice. This story draws the reader like a magnet. Fun read, good luck with it.

This is a lot of fun. Very well written, absorbing and some good funny moments that are obviously not just for children, loved the Mel Gibson line. Good luck with this, I can see it doing very well. Backed.

Hi Renee!

What a fun premise this is for a children's book! The kids are going to be captivated by the whimsical way you spin your storyline, and I do think the parents will enjoy as well! Great stuff - on my shelf!

When I first read your pitch, I recalled a Johnny Test episode. Johnny uses his sister's machine and makes 100 copies to help him with his chores -- and mayhem falls from there -- but this is obviously different. It is surely a premise to appeal to that age group.

I have two boys - and I could see them in your main character (e.g. wanting to continue trick or treat, sitting on their hands, being fascinated by the mercury).

I liked the dialogue. I thought it flowed well and was age appropriate for the characters.

A couple typos in Chapter 1:

I snapped out of if (it).

"Sort of," Mr. Mason answered (this should be a new paragraph -- its currently burried right next to someone else talking

"Bye, Mr. Mason(,) I called on my way by. Needs that comma and I'd switch out the "by" it felt awkward there to me

Good luck with this.

Hi Renee, I really enjoyed your opening chapters. The "Mel Gibson" bit made me laugh out loud and I can only imagine the chaos that's going to ensue with Charlie/Chuck later on! Your style of writing and the theme reminded me of the Jiggy McCue books by Michael Lawrence, and he's done pretty well so good luck with this! Gladly backed. Best wishes, Katherine
