Withershins

Andrew Perutz

Withershins: In a direction contrary to the apparent course of the sun. When your world starts to go backwards is it really that bad?

Alex and Katy had found a hidden world in the garden and already had helped those that live there escape the dangers and threats of The Wizened Wizard. Once again, however, they are called upon to save Obfuscate but this time not everyone believes that getting younger and feeling better is that bad a thing. Will the two brave children be able to turn everything around, who is behind the plot to ruin Obfuscate and gain control. Only time will tell - with just a little help from ALex and Katy ... and of course Clockwatcher, Evanzzzz, Hedgehog.

ARISE, AUTHONOMY GHOST!

Ease those weary, withered limbs from your coffin. Push away the stone from the mouth of the tomb.

You have one last task to perform. One last, sacred shelf to confer.

Whether you were plugger, spammer, gusher or troll, whether you flirted or fought in the forum or beavered away in the shadows, now is the time for your resurrection.

One last time. Marshall your strength, muster the last vestiges of your power and carry out your final Authonomy act:

Back my book, MIRROR IN THE SKY.

Then, only then, you may rest easy in your Authonomy grave.

If i had a child, I would read this story to her(or him) in an instant. Really liked it.

Only time to read ch1 so far but feel I wd connect more with animals if given names. 'That which had come to pass' has intrigued me, so i will read on.

can I just point that in the 4th paragraph he should fall off the bed not of...in case you missed it. Also AJith says 'he's right as rain' shouldnt that be as right as rain? Im sorry to be picky... I'm terrible at missing things too.
The gaps between the different speakers bugged me a little too. I'm not sure whether a publisher would be happy with the amount of paper used but, and now for the good part, I liked it.
It was gentle and imaginative and I could see myself in day gone past sitting down with a class of children at story time with this book.
With some talented watercolours this could be a huge hit.

This is a lovely, traditional children's book. It demands cocoa, pyjamas and the smell of a one-bar electric fire. i wanted pictures of course- it is crying out to be beautifully illustrated. For me, slightly too much is carried through conversation but I know many children love that. Maybe it would make a good playscript or a Farthing Woodish cartoon. I wondered why you had put the huge gaps between the paragraphs. It slowed me a bit but i'm sure you hadve a very sensible reason. i'm not writing this to lure you into reading Sim because i suspect you'd hate it. We are coming at children's lit from very different approaches but i certainly applaud you for doing your kind of book so well. Watchlisting so I remember to come back for chapter four! jak

Thanks for your comments. Somone else pointed out the overuse of the word Hoppin. I will have a good read and correct I think! Best of luck!!

Hi Andrew.
I thought this was a lovely beginning. Its cute, quaint and just as a childrens book should be!
I am guessing at an 8 to 10 year old for this? You have said young adult but again I think you have to be careful what they will want to read.
I had a few hiccups with Hoppin to begin with . I wrote for a 10 year old yet my story was more suited for an 8 year old. I have since corrected...cut sentence length, ditched the tricky words..Very hard and Im still working on it! Authonomy reviewers constructive comments.
i hope you dont mind me being so honest. I love this type of tale and wish they would be featured a little more.
I like this so onto my bookshelf you go for a while. Good luck..dont forget to promote yourself on Shameless plugs. Have a look at Hoppin if you get a mo .I appreciate the feedback.
