Miss Taken Identity

J.L. Penn

Emily's boring job gives her the opportunity to become a wealthy heiress. Will it be all she hoped and will she get away with it?

Emily Sullivan's life is in the crapper. She is barely on speaking terms with her mother and sister, she has a dead-end data entry job at the Department of Public Records, she is new to the area with only her boyfriend to call a friend, and bad things seem to give way to worse things for Emily. That is, until her boring dead-end job offers her the unique opportunity to become someone else - a wealthy reclusive heiress who is presumed dead after a major fire at her mansion.

Stephanie Watson is the ill-mannered perpetually half-drunk British heiress who has led the kind of lifestyle Emily can barely imagine. With the opportunity for a new life of wealth and the potential for fame, what will Emily do with it, and will she get away with it?

Author's Note: This is a first draft of my second novel that is currently in progress. I welcome any constructive criticism and feedback! More will be uploaded as it becomes available. IF YOU ONLY HAVE TIME TO READ ONE OF MY BOOKS, PLEASE READ REUNION INSTEAD. THAT NOVEL IS COMPLETE AND IS THE ONE I'M IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET PUBLISHED. THANKS!

This works and works wonderfully well my friend. having already read and backed the terrific Reunion...i couldn't resist takeing a look at this one...love the clever title.

You have the unique ability to make the reader empathize so well with whatever crazy complex plan your heroin comes up with. This one is a doozy...but its a doozy we all want to see work..."Go for the brass ring Emily!!!"

I love it and am not at all surprised-- you really write this genre with class. On my watchlist until tomorrow when it will take its well earned space on my shelf

Are you planning on writing more? I loved everything that I've read so far. To me , the heroine seems a bit odd (especially with the mayo bit) but I really like her. Happy to place on my shelf.

Hi J. L., Very entertaining! Emily's portrayal was amusing from the start and because her work and college history is so believable. Loved the "intellectual pinball" and the mayo - it's all well-worked. As is Stephanie, her dialogue with Henry and the concept of the British problem child running to the U.S. I did wonder at the part about Emily's parents and college funds - it didn't prepare me for the info later that her father was dead. Still, if this is work for revision, it's already a gas to read. At the mention of Justin, I knew I could expect another bittersweet laugh. I think this would make good movie too - Easily shelved Katherine (The Swan Bonnet)

JL,
I've read the first chapter and think your off to a great start. How can you resist a character that's so passionate about mayo? This one makes me want to read your other, so I've put it on my watchlist.

What a clever idea for a novel. . . I'd love to know if Emily gets away with it. I hope she does - her life as herself is going nowhere fast and this could be her one shot to make somehting of her life. 'Borrowed' life that is!
I can't believe this is a first draft - I certainly couldn't find any fault with your writing and I very much like your style.
"With one additional glass of wine, that tiny voice that some might call the voice of reason had all but fallen alseep inside Emily's head". . . that's a great line, one we can all relate to at some point or other!

Best of luck with this one!

Okay, so do you understand that I hate onions? No wonder we cry when we cut them - they're balls of sorrow. Your novel is breezy and fast paced and everything that is fun. This does not read like a first draft. No. I like this. I anticipate seeing this in suntanned hands lounging in beach chairs. It works.

And I'm heading over to Reunion right now...
