The Deadfall Project

Brett James

The war on terror is here.

The Deadfall Project has a five-star rating on Amazon. Worth checking out:

Iranian terrorists plant a bomb in Paris, nearly killing millions, and one man must track them down before they strike again.

CIA agent Grey Stark is back from two decades of retirement, searching for an elusive bomb that could level a city in seconds. As NATO amasses troops at Iran's border, Stark races across France with his ex-wife, digging through his own dark past in a desperate attempt to defuse the war.

Hunted by a world-class gunman, a playboy terrorist, and half the world's intelligence agencies, he realizes that even his own boss will stop at nothing to protect the secrets of The Deadfall Project...

I'm not surprised this has a five star review. I am so not into terrorist reads, but I thought I'd take a look anyway. I have to congratulate you. I got through the suspense of the first chapter with no trouble at all and I wondered at one point whether Amin would blow himself up. Great writing which proves that if a writer is good enough he should be able to keep a reader interested, no matter what genre. Melted ghost - great similie. I always wondered what went through the mind of a terrorist, thank you. I am a lot more clued up now.
Best wishes

This thriller is well written. Your opening grabbed my attention and made me want to read on. Backed with pleasure. Lisa

Returning a read and very pleased to do so with such an accomplished thriller. The opening is suitably engaging, very intense and plenty of action to get the story off to a flying start. I like the title and your pitches are well crafted and displayed to perfection.
This novel is a thriller and has all the attributes for success in the genre - excellent judgement of pace, strong action sequences and strong characters battling on the side of good and evil. I found many examples of memorable descriptions, I'll pick out one about Henri's jacket from chapter 5 - 'His tweed jacket looked like the battlefield of some great moth war.' Oh, I really like that. Backed in the certainty that this will do well on this site.

Not normally my genre but the cover art and then the pitch pulled me right in. Your story proper is excellent as well. From page one the reader is instantly engaged in what is going on in the story - very compelling read and I shall return to read more but for now BACKED with pleasure!

Brett, your first chapter is powerful. Well-written with a good pace.

Happy to back this.

This is excellent writing! My only complaint is I wish there were more chapters! Your first three chapters are polished and you have agift for dialogue and intrigue. I love the premise of the married couple on the run! BACKED and I'll come back to read more!

Hey Brett: I've backed Deadfall Project...good taut writing, but then you know that. Best of luck with it...Cynthia Drew, Tabernacle

I usually aoid anything in this genre because of the news and constant bombing. It used to be two things that were a constant - death and taxes, but now it's three - death, taxes and mid-east bombing. However, if five stars could be given for realism, this is it. For those fans of this work, go no further.

Thrilling and well polished. Amin's bomb fails to ignite, he tries to fix it, kills a guard escapes. The the constant interposition of detail kept the suspense building.

perfect thriller technique...shelved.
This has good plot, characters and lack of errors.
I have to ask..Why Iranians?
Doesn't this choice add a bit more fuel to the
concerted decade long efforts to back the Iranis into a corner
and take their oil? That's how the story often goes over here..
All the best........Mikell The Free

Not a book I would normally pick off the shelf to read. But, this "Deadall Project", is something else entirely. You write very well Brett. I could not make any reliable comments, because this genre is way out of bounds for me. However, that does not exclude me from making the point, that this is a superb book. Good luck Brett.

I read chapter 5. This sits with the best thrillers in the marketplace. Taut, tense, exciting as hell. Some of your dialogue serves more to advance the plot than to define the characters. That's indicative of the genre - yet it's also the limitation of the genre that stops novels from mass appeal. Easily editable. Or not depending on author preference.
