Did Calvin Murder Servetus?

Standford Rives

Study of heresy trial of 1553 where Calvin persecuted Servetus. Of great historical importance, and still debated.

A thorough examination of all the facts whether Calvin as a judicial witness murdered Servetus in 1553. This is still debated, but no thorough treatment on the trial itself has ever been done. The trial impacted views of freedom of speech and religion that we have inherited today.

This appears to be very well written. I only managed chapter one but it is obviously well-researched and referenced. A professional job. Backed, Barry (Little Krisna and the Bihar Boys)

This book has obviously been researched well.

Great work, highly enjoyable.

With a little edit you could be on to a winner.

An interestingly written and thoroughly researched essay about an apparently seminal figure of the enlightenment. One of whom I have never heard. I don't know that Authonomy is the appropriate venue for such scholarly work, but why not? Happy to have read it and be enlightened by it. It suggests to me that many of the ideas we attribute to certain writers of genius may not have been original to them but were reaching critical mass at the time they most famously expressed them.

Great concept. I think adding a little more naration would help eliminat the use of excessive referencing. Now, most of your sources are internet based, and some consider that lazy research. Maybe thats enough contreversy to propulse this to a different level.

DID CALVIN MURDER SERVETUS:

Standford,

I'm not mentally equipped to comment on the content of this highly specialised, intelluctual piece. However, to me it seems really well organised and clearly you have done a great deal of research. It is a brave venture, and one that I'm sure will be well received by scholars and those well versed in the subject.

However, I am pleased to comment on the writing. The prose is elegant, well paced, and flows smoothly. The tone and language are just right for the subject, and the syntax is impeccable.

Backed, with admiration.

Your research seems to be pretty good though maybe there are a few too many internet sources perhaps. I did think that is places you made some generalisations or sweeping statements - I was thinking about where you might make a judgement or evaluation of something for example. Some practical suggestions: It might be worth having some kind of subtitle or division-line to seperate the footnotes from the main text. Also some readers might find the passages easier on the eye if the text were double-spaced or a larger font possibly.
Overall this is clearly a great effort and more than I could ever manage! Well done and backed :)
