Oilgate

Christian Lonnqvist

OILGATE is a thriller with echoes of global politics, anything and everything is up for sale: the price is simply open to negotiation.

It is August 2001. Under strange circumstances, a fully-laden oil tanker drifts off course in Alaskan waters and is shipwrecked. The accident is shown to be sabotage. After September 11th, however, all attention is focused elsewhere, on the issue of international terrorism.

Late in that autumn, there is a break-in at the Geneva offices of AlpInsurance, the company responsible for insuring the tanker and its cargo. A former AlpInsurance executive has smelt a rat, and he wants to see the company's hard-boiled CEO brought to book.

But this is a game in which the stakes are perilously high.

A gripping storyline that moves seamlessly from the panic on the bridge of the stricken oil tanker to the white-lanen tables of a French gourmet restaurant, and from a Texas parking lot to a scruffy bar in Alaska.

I was drawn into reading this by the pitch which was tight and professional. Chapter 1 is so gripping it took my breath away. Whilst I was reading it the whole scene was playing out in my head like a disaster movie. That's a big compliment to your writing skills which are very accomplished. The theme is ageless and plays on the fear that everyone has of drowning but Oilgate provides a further twist by including a terrorist element to it. Well done and I look forward to reading what the Editors have to say.

This is an immediate page-turner: straight into the action and no padding, which is absolutely perfect for the story you're creating. The pace is almost breathless in your opening chapter, and I like the way you maintain it - I've read the first 5 chapters.
As has already been said, this topic is horribly current, but the power of the narrative should allow the book to have a longer shelf-life.
I'm backing this and wishing you all the best,

A very timely premise which is cleverly crafted, well paced and well written. From the oil tanker to the grimy business of big oil you have woven a great story. Your use of imagery is excellent and your smooth writing style sucks the reader quickly into your book. Backed with pleasure.

hullo Christian. There must be nothing scarier that being not only on a sinking ship but to be in so cold water with no one to help, no where to go. Good story line and charecters. As Luk said a sort of mirroring of the ;unfolding BP crisis. Already shelved and backed. Please take a look at my book and thanks for that.

Hello

Been giving this a close look. Very well structured, dramatic opening...
With the BP crisis unfolding I guess this has an awful topicality. I can't believe the UK press has been more interested in the election and so called Bigotgate for the last few days, as if the BP oil crisis isn't happening.

Intriguing cover and the book gets even better, the build up of suspense is good and the setting on the ship good. The hooks have been brilliantly placed, and I have no trouble in backing this as a compelling thriller.

Backed,

Oilgate has a very compelling plot line. From Johnson's plight on the tanker to the break-in at AlpInsurance to the Andrei's dilemma in carrying out the hit, you keep the tension at a high level. The nautical knowledge displayed in chapter one was particularly convincing. Backed.

This starts as it means to go on, with action all the way. We get a real feel for the ship and the setting then its into the sinking and the mystery of the instruments. Dialogue convinces and there is enough characterisation to hang the story onto. Great stuff. Definitely a holiday read. Jim Darcy The Firelord's Crown

This is a good story. You have good characters and an exciting plot. I liked it especially because an oil spill is such a terrorist worry. Your writing style works well for this. You have a lot of backstory here to describe and you could have fallen into the trap of downloading a lot of technical stuff down front; instead you neatly sidestepped that and moved right into the tanker disaster. Makes this a good read. I"m adding this to my shelf. Burgio (Grain of Salt).

Dear Christian , I love that you broached the topic of "Oilgate." I always wondered if it was terrorists backed. You did well in preparing me to read your book by your recap/pitch & prologue before your story began. It is a good read because you create interest by having short paragraphs & lots of dialogue, which makes me want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next. I'm "reading"/"commenting"/"backing" your book to help it move up on the charts (sending a message doesn't move your book up, but only "comment"/"backing"). Could you please return the favor by taking a moment to "comment"/"back" my 2 memoir books to help them move up? "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" & the unedited version? "Tell Me True Love Stories," which at the end of the last chapter tells my illness now & my 6th abusive marriage I'm in. Thanks. :) Love, Susie :)

Welcome aboard, Christian. This website will improve your writing craft, if you allow it. I'll be your first comment. Both pitches work. Perfecting your pitches is how you climb in ranking to gather more exposure and comments to better your novel. The writing is good so I am SHELVING you.

Though I have been a very active member for over a year, I can still use your comments on my book when you get the chance. Every little bit helps. Cheers!
