Escaping Innocence (A Story of Awakening)

Joe Perrone Jr.

A recently-widowed lawyer receives an invitation to a college reunion, but deciding whether or not to attend is more difficult than he can imagine.

When David Justin first receives an invitation to the fortieth reunion of his college class, his initial reaction is "sure; why not?" But he is conflicted by the agonizing imagery of his wife's recent death in an automobile accident (for which he holds himself responsible). To compound matters, there are other memories, and slowly he is forced to recall another unfulfilled relationship, albeit many years ago and forgotten - that is, until now.
Escaping Innocence is an evocative examination of the journey from adolescence to adulthood set in the magical decade of The Sixties. In it you'll meet David Justin, an Italian-Catholic, height-challenged youth, desperately trying to escape the bonds of sexual repression and adolescent innocence that we all experienced in our youth. Filled with a cast of universal characters and experiences, Escaping Innocence is at once poignant and hilarious, and guaranteed to touch every emotional chord you possess.

This is simply awesome - I can so easily relate to this being a product of the sixties (whatever that means) I will comment more later but for now Backed with pleasure for a well written and compelling read!

You are certainly a prolific writer> I will try to take a look at your other books when time permits. I enjoyed the humour in this fascinating book. A lot of thought has gone into the story, and the plot is very engaging. Happy to back. Eunice - The Temple Dancer.

Dear Joe, I love that you shared what most of us (especially in California) don't have a clue about - amazing - does this king of thing really happen? - I'm sure it does. :) Thanks for enlightening us who are so surprised. :) Before I began to read your book, I was prepared by your pitch, which was very well done. :) Your story is good because you create interest by having short paragraphs & lots of dialogue, which makes me want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next. I'm "backing" your book: When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved...authonomy. :) Please "back" my TWO memoir books, "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" & my completed memoir unedited version? "Tell Me True Love Stories," which tells at the end, my illness now & 6th abusive marriage." Thanks, Susie :)
p.s. Remember: Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, your recommendation pushes the book up the rankings. And while that book sits on your bookshelf, your reputation as a talent spotter increases depending on how well that book performs. :)

Funny and compelling not only to the YA audience, but don't leave out the rest of the reading community. Well written in a humorous voice. Good dialogue and narratives. Backed.

I hope you will give mine a read and back it if you like it.

Cute story! I jumped ahead to Ch 8 for a sample. The writing style will certainly appeal to the younger adult crowd who could probably sympathize most with MC's plight. Nice job of fleshing out the father character through conversational exchanges.

Although I have listed this as young adult fiction, comedy, it deals with a period that would also make it quite relevant for "baby boomers." I hope you will take a look!
