An Ethereal Sky, and other Ramblings

James R. Goddard

Prose, free verse, and how does one pitch a book of poetry, prose, and other ramblings of the heart and all that is OUT THERE.

I really have no clue if a book can sell as a book of one's introspective thoughts. I have been inspired by one of the writers here that, yes, it can happen. Yes, not a real pitch. Working on it.

Thanks for your sweet comment, you have been eating too much chocolate ;) All we endeavor is to be brightness Jim, mind, body and spirit, embracing all things that gives us comfort...like chocolate. Keep up the good work Jim. Love, Light and Rainbows a plenty. Clare :)

What beautiful poetry, it was to me childhood days, cold nights, rain hitting the window, children, adult-hood memories, films, everything in between. Chocolate....is a best friend, travelling companion, healer, forgiveness, brilliant interpretation Jim.

Maybe that's why my parents named me after their favorite cake...Chocolate Eclair? Just kidding. Brillaint 6 stars. Clare Be The Human Sunshine.

Hi James, sorry I thought the chocolate went on a bit too long but it was sweet reading, ha ha.
What I did enjoy was the others, particularly ‘Wisdom for my Children’ which made its mark on me.
I also enjoyed your other book ‘London in Love’ some time ago now.
I hope you do well with this latest one. It’s certainly different and I wish you the best with it.
Well starred and on my W/L for backing when I can.

Kind regards,

Neville. The Secrets of the Forest – The Time Zone.

Jim,
Your love of chocolate and the way it has inspired you to write poetry made me laugh while I read it. I suspect some of those health benefits are imaginary, but I can always appreciate an unusual sense of humor. I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing chocolate for years since I gave it up due to the caffeine and someone was once stunned to hear this from me. I've found carob to be a good substitute for chocolate, but there will never be a good substitute for love.

Jim,
I love, love, love the poems about chocolate!!
I agree, chocolate can never be the root of war.

I want the chocolate poem as a bookmark, please! Perhaps a card.

LOUVE it.

After reading this collection, I'm sure I'd read anything you wrote-- even a grocery list. You have such a beauty to your writing that it sings to me as I read it. I'd enjoyed this because sometimes I only have short bursts of time to read and can't always dedicate the time to reading a full length novel. I loved the variety in this piece.. I have a lot of books on my shelf that are plays and I would definitely buy a collection like this. Good luck with it!

Jim --

I truly enjoyed your musings. They are original, and conjure up beautiful images, wonderful moments.

When the scientist came along I had to laugh out loud and run for the chocolate candy I´ve been storing for occassions such as this.

Original, yes. On my shelf.

Your poetic chapters are refreshing - I was glad I had chocolate in the house - otherwise, I would have had to go to the grocery :)

I absoluetly love how you have crafted such an ancient love story into a play - the chours is brillant - would love to see and hear this performed - loved just reading it too - stage directions are insightful- good strong voice -

thanks

I was really drawn in to this...and thats not easy to do with poetry. I would say that sometimes the formatting is a little hard to follow, but I wouldn't know how to fix it as I am not expert in this area. I think this is the type of book that some beautiful photos would enhance and it could be marketable. I would buy a copy for myself(even though I don't really like chocolate) and one for my sister(who loves chocolate). I will keep my reading as you update. I know the poetry market is hard to break into...so best of luck to you!

Chocolate
Goddard

The good news is that it gets a brief spin on the revolving bookcase.
Now I put on my nit-picking critiquer's hat.

Novels can struggle on despite occasional infelicities.
Poets in night clubs naturally stumble and hesitate.
In print, however, a single infelicity, mis-step, or hesitation shatters the illusion, for me. I'll make an effort, but if you haven't made the effort, the poem crashes.

Chocolate, for example. You say, among similar stuff, that "chocolate cures is always a good way to make people smile."

Maybe, but on the other hand maybe you just didn't think it important to write carefully, and to give us a list of things-that-chocolate-cures.

"She lays against an oak tree, legs feeding her chocolates." Perhaps some day "lay" will mean "lie", but for some time now that particular error, like misplaced -ING words, has rung alarm bells in the amateur writing world.

the punctuation is erratic it does not serve the ... meaning there are too many ..... dots and too few. Full stops. This is not fine full freedom and artistry it is a bore. In my opinion.

Enough of curmudgeonry. Good luck. As I said, I backed it.

Nice one, I can't really improve on the comments below, except to add that I wish that I liked chocolates like everyone esle I know. Unfortunately it is something that actaully makes me sick, physically that is. So, I kind of have a eat it or leave it attitude towards it. Still I am betting lots of people will be drawn to this book with a difference.
Cheers and backed for its merit.

This is the only the second poetry I've come across on this site. Your presence is a blessing to us other writers becasue it's nice to be pushed out of the ordinary. I'm off to read more. Some nice images and ideas to ponder over the next little while.

Very amusing and yummy poems. 'Chocolate is the stuff fine art is mad of'. I totally agree with your view on chocolate as 'the universal answer to all life's impossible equations.
In fact I would like to suggest you write a coffee table book on chocolates: are they product of love or substitute for love? Combined with your romantic poems, I think you have lots going for you.
Best wishes,

PS.
The Beatles and chocolate? Really?

I don't need much encouragement to back poetry. Not enough on this website in my view... especially fun, light, dancing poetry like yours. Well done and keep going.

Hi Jim, Yes, these are pearls of a personal nature, but everyone can relate to chocolate. I think you tap into the consciousness of humanity in how you string it all together, the nature, the humans, and the chocolate. Now, I feel a little hungry.

You might try contacting Grey Wolf Press which publishing poetry. It's out of the Midwest. I think that's the name of the press. It has wolf in the title.

Dear James, I just love your Song of Solomon play :) - that's precious. :) I understand that you love "chocolate" & "love" :) - together or separately, even. :) I love all of your chapters & especially on how to treat girls :) - having had 6 bad husbands, it's a shame they didn't abide by your hints. :) I'm so blessed from reading your book. :) Thank you. :) Love, Susie :) p.s. we've already backed each other's book. :) Thank you. :)
