Thanks Larry, I truly appreciate the backing.

This is a very good book. the story develops with the attack on the student and proceeds flawlessly to the murder scene in the forest, the vivid descriptions of the death scene the dialog, the overall strength of the characters and the tedious investigation that follows is nothing short of spectacular. You write well and this story should be published, it's a best seller. Proud to have backed.

Hi Thomas, I'm not a critic, just a scriptwriter diving into novel world for the first time - however I can appreciate a good story, and yours certainly is. Nice!

Jim, thanks and welcome aboard. I am the opposite, a novelist diving into screen writing. Very different art forms for certain. Best of luck, if I can be of any assistance please let me know.

In three short, but exceedingly well crafted, terse and humorous paragraphs Justice Rules got my vote! My wife thought I was having a sexual encounter in my den as I kept shouting out 'Yes!' 'Yes'. Mucus making verbs and 'Je ne mange pas lingerie' describes my feeling about French exactly although to be fair it does stem from the fact that I was pretty useless with the language. Back to Justice Rules -- exceptionally well written in graphic, caustic, but not cruel, prose, no nonsense pace developing the plot at an optimum rate and believable characters. BACKED. Welcome aboard, Thomas. This website will improve your writing craft, if you allow it. I'm a bit of a pitch doctor, having read thousands of pitches in my time on this website, so I want to share my insight here with you. You have to think of your pitches as your sales tool to grab the casual reader's eyes. The short pitch doesn't. The long pitch needs to be written. There is not enough here for the casual reader's eyes. You may wanna end with a question so it compels the casual reader to turn pages. Perfecting your pitches is how you climb in ranking to gather more exposure and comments to better your novel. The writing is good so I am SHELVING you.

Though I have been a very active member for over a year and have the most commented book on the website, I can still use your comments on my book when you get the chance. Every little bit helps. Cheers!

hullo Thomas. this is proving to be a great story full of suspence. Just goes to show you that when a stranger breaks into your dorm room, don't even take a second breath before you call for help. Else wise you might come up missing a head. Very good.Already shelved and backed.
Please take a look at my book if you have not and thanks for that.

An awesome read-a great book for by the pool, on the airplane or tucked safely under the covers!
The story is fast paced, the story-line well developed and the characters are relatable-even the most despicable characters seemed human and relatable. After the first chapter I couldn't put it down...and the ending was fantastic! Totally unpredictable!
Backed!

Hi,

This is one book I will definitely read to completion when time permits. It is fantastic! Great story line; a bit gruesome but well-developed characters and flows well.

This is happily backed

Hi Thomas, The scenes are well rendered so that when Pryor was attacked and when the investigators discussed the cabin murder, the horror came as it would to Pryor and the detectives. I was pulled in and by the strong style. Shelved – Katherine (The Swan Bonnet)

Justice Rules

Thomas White

Congrats in your book being a finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary contest in the Mystery/Thriller category. You tackle a huge theme. Your title "Justice Rules" is very contentious. Does justice rule in our world. I think not, but of course, it might through your vigilante coalition so I look forward to seeing how exactly this is achieved. Very emotional subject matter as well. This is well written Thomas - of course you know this already or you wouldn't have been a finalist in that competition. I think you have a credible setting and characters. You did a good job with that mutilated body. I too turned away from that gruesome scene - very effective. "...we have to find that head." Coming back in due course to see if they locate it. Good read. Hope you find a publisher.

I knew as soon as I started reading that Pryor was in danger. I don't know how you conveyed such an ominous tone without putting it into words, but like magic it kept me and will keep everyone reading.
The attack is horrible. It's the most frightening opening chapter I've read for a long time. I'm reading on now but have paused to back it. Lynn

Andrew Burans wrote 701 days ago

You set the tone for your novel perfectly in the beginning of chapter one - the attack scene is brutally well done. Your use of short paragraphs and crisp, realistic dialogue keeps the flow of your thriller moving at a fast pace. Your story is character rich, the plot is well conceived and structured and your descriptive writing makes your crime thriller a pleasure to read. Backed.

JUSTICE RULES
This is a good mystery. The opening chapter is dramatic; I like the detail you include in your descriptions; made me pause a couple times and reread a sentence – but that was good. Let me know this was not your average thriller. I’m adding this to my shelf. Burgio (Grain of Salt).

Incredible writing and a VERY worthy finalist. There's nothing else to add really except I intend to finish all you have uploaded, I can assure you I've only ever done that to one other book on the site and that's Muckers, currently sitting alongside me on the desk.

Phenominally assured and engaging writing.

Thomas, you've maybe beaten CSI at their own game here... with some of the humor of NCIS neatly in place that counteracts a gruesome find worthy of a Hannibal Lecter...

Your writing style ratchets up the tension, along with the clues, that'll have readers playing FBI agent as they turn the pages. Great characterizations, even those bit-parters - the apartment manager especially, who '....can't git this last one to die no how'. As for FBI agent Brian, his character is coming through in a way that'll have readers willing him on. One thing, though - the description of him felt a bit *info-dumpy* to me - his hair, etc. I think maybe you could consider drip-feeding that a bit more, maybe as one of the ladies sees him? (A couple of good contenders thus far...). His worry for his daughter is real and touching, as is that single thought on talking to his ex.

I felt things heating up along with Brian - that walk into the woods, and relieved with him. The dialogue with the local police great - as I say, the humor and pathos interjected at just the right times. What happened to the victim... oh, good Lord, and of course, I am wondering how that ties in with Pryor from that heart-thumping prologue from 1990. (Getting sleuth's hat on...). Incidentally, that prologue... I thought maybe a bit too much there on Pepsi - especially her actions getting the can out in the lobby. Nitpicky, I know...

So, the screws are tightening, the characters along the way just great, and a Tommy Lee Jones'd just love to get this part in the inevitable movie... great stuff. And a shelf spot is all I can offer... with best wishes and luck to you, Thomas, from -

Skipped to chapter 36. Nice, crisp writing with strong, believable dialogue. Loved the last line of the chapter and, of course, I had to see what happened after he was hit in the head, so I read the next chapter. Very nice work and the best of luck on the site.

Dear Thomas, I love investigations & I know everything will come out all right in the end - at least in all of the tv series. :) Your pitch is excellent, so set the hook for me to read your book. :) When you use short paragraphs & lots of dialogue, it makes me want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next. I'm backing your book. :)
Could you please take a moment to back my TWO memoir books? Thanks, Susie :)

This is information from authonomy (so beware of any other untrue information you may receive that is spam & not quotes of authonomy):
"When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved"...authonomy quote.
