Thomas Fairchild

Eunice Attwood

The first story about Thomas, an intellectually impaired child who is taken on a mission to Heaven, to discover his purpose on earth.

Thomas is sent on a mission in the Yonder Realm, (Heaven) to earn his angel wings. The story is aimed at enlightening adults and children alike, regarding life, death and everything in between. It is a story mixed with spiritual truths, adventure and fantasy, which helps remove the sting of death, and is particularly helpful to families with special needs - or sick children. There are delightful characters to help Thomas along the way, and he meets with loved family members and pets
who have passed away, and discovers that no life is ever lost, and we will all be re-united one day when our purpose has been fulfilled.
My work as a psychic/medium for over thirty years helped in writing this book, which is based on the life of a real boy - my own grandson. Some of the events are actual events in our live's together.
Graeme Beals, the managing director of Zentih Publishing NZ, wrote a wonderful assessment of the book, likening it to another Harry Potter.
Many adults have enjoyed it as much as their children. For his next adventure, see Thomas Fairchild and the Tree of Life.

Thomas Fairchild really hits the mark. A book about an intellectually impaired child, as your short pitch suggests, will draw a compassionate audience no matter the age. I think what you have achieved here is remarkable. The visuals alone conjure up a spiritually exciting theme; Thomas born with a brain injury has been chosen and he must get his angel wings. Adults will enjoy reading this to children, re-opening a childlike world many thought they had left behind. But what’s so special about this book is its magic. It spreads like fairy dust and I believe it will linger with those that read it for quite some time. With Fri’ knowing what Thomas is thinking, the dialogue is natural and fast paced and I like how you have introduced the notion that the Great Father removes all memory of the Yonder Realm. I have often wondered this myself, forgotten only so that we don’t feel homesick and unable to fulfill his plan. The colors and auras which reveal children’s feelings are so clever, nice children having vibrant colors and mean children having murky ones. But with the option to change them for something better. This struck me as the most encouraging, bringing hope to the story and livening up the plot. A marvelous story rich in hope. I will definitely be coming back for more. Highly starred. This is interesting concept for the younger set. I love when writers use their fantasy world to explain ordinary imponderables like using colors to describe emotion or the the meaning of yawning. I thought some of the more esoteric explanations ran a bit long and could use some trimming, but not too much. Otherwise, the pace is fine and the voice is wonderfully gentle.

This has a great premise, is written well, and has a unique - sweet tone.

It could do with a little tightening in places, and I've put a couple below.

No need to have 'sat' or 'lay' with down. Both imply down.

With 'where the voices were coming from' - try eg. 'where the voices came from'

I feel the explanation about dropping the 's' that is in brackets could be removed and you could just let the dialogue speak for itself.

Good luck with it.

What an inspirational tale. Some children facing loss or serious illness could well benefit from a story like this, well done. Paula Barrett (Cuthbert-how mean is my valley)

You have crafted a most compelling storyline and your use of imagery is excellent. Your character development of Tom is well done and the dialogue is crisp and realistic. All of this coupled with your descriptive writing ensures that your work will appeal to the children's audience. Backed with pleasure.

Sounds like a lovely tale mixed with a very profound message, one that might be too often avoided in real life. -Susan

This looks like a lovely, inspirational, educational story for your target readership.
Looked at your pitches and chapter one " Fri' ". Thomas is immediately sympathetic, born with a brain injury and having trouble with writing and speech. I think your writing here should be easily accessible to children and I wish you all the best with it. Happy to give it a spin on my shelf Eunice.
