THE MUSIC OF WOMEN

Vincent Panettiere

A successful novelist decides to commit suicide to make amends to the women he has hurt in his life.

Charlie Forte lives on top of the world with a view of the Pacific to the west and downtown Los Angeles to the east. He is determined to drive off into Malibu Canyon to kill himself as a way of atoning to all the women he's hurt. He also hopes his death will propel sales of his latest novel, a fictional self-confession, and thereby provide an annuity for his wife. But first he must see his former lover one last time. She rebuffs him. He runs after her, falls and knocks himself unconscious. While in a coma all the women in his life visit him, many with their own signature music. From his mother, to his wife, sisters, aunts one-night-stands, therapist, long time loves and some who got away. Comotose, Charlie does more penance than he could ever do dead or alive.

Vincent,

Humorous and refreshing, your protagonist will no doubt get more than he bargains for. A fun, enjoyable read.

Shorter chapters might be beneficial.

Hi Vincent, This is a funny and regretful protagonist, full of anecdotes that are interesting to read. As he reminisces about his first encounters with girls, women’s faults and Marta, he seems like one of those people who thinks about suicide but is too much in life for it. The writing is bright and gives enough detail to make his memories fascinating. His tripping when he’s on his “last visit” to Sierra caps that; he’s chasing after life again. This is entertaining and Charlie’s POV is one that really ruminates. Happy to shelve – Katherine (The Swan Bonnet)

Great start to what promises to be a great novel. Well done and good luck on this site. Gordon - The Harpist of Madrid

I love the premise of your novella. A man wanting to committ suicide to atone for his womanizing ways but instead he is thrust into a type of purgatory when they come to visit him whilst he is in a comma. This is well done and a most intertaining read. You have created afascinating character in Charlie and the scenes which you paint coupled with your descriptive writing makes your work a pleasure to read. Backed.

Hi Vincent
Wow, what a great concept. I once penned down an idea for something along similar lines, but quite different. It's still on the back of an envelope though. I think this could do well as it is highly entertaining but also something that people can relate to. Total genius!

He's an endearing man with his little pretentions, like the letter to his publisher describing himself which his wife isn't asked to proof. He's funny and honest - had he been a more lyrical writer he would have sustituted soul for ass. And success and society can't pull the wool over his eyes. Not even his children can.
It's hysterically funny and serious at the same time. Look at the last two sentences of ch1 for example - bloody brilliant. They make want you want to laugh and cry.
Sorry I've read only the first chapter. I will read more next week. Backed for now with very best wishes. Lynn

Vince: wishing you the best on this website. But remember the caveat: you can only get out of it what you put into it. Both of these pitches work. Seems compelling enough to start turning pages. BACKED!

I can use your comments on my novel when you get a chance. Cheers!

I am backing this book on the strength of the read which I found impressive enough to back. The problem is that while my Talent spotter ranking sank below one hundred I have been inundated with requests to read. If you require detailed comments please message me otherwise I was proud to back you and will watch with interest. Cheers for now. BACKED.

MUSIC OF WOMEN
This is a clever story: an unconscious man is visited by all his former lovers. I think there was a recent movie with a similar theme with Matthew McConaughey but he wasn’t unconscious so okay. I like your writing style; it’s fresh and clear and makes this easy to read. Charlie isn’t a terribly likable character because of the way he devalues women; the thought that he wants to leave his wife with money is a good redeeming quality. Made me want to keep rading to see how this all goes down. I’m adding it to my shelf. If you have a moment, would you look at mine (Grain of Salt)? I’m in 8th place but only holding on by my teeth. Dear Vincent
your short pitch is a strange thing, but it proposed a question in my mind and I wanted it answered so I had not choice but to read you book. WHAT A GOOD PITCH. yes this book is a good read, your main character Charlie is so well colored, animated to the point of reality that I am compelled to find out more. CONGRATS on this.
BACKED BY ME FOR SURE
I do hope you will review my book, comment and most of all BACK it. but either way the BEST of luck with yours

Dear Vincent, I love the quandry of your so-called hero - comatose is pretty drastic - I had a friend in a coma 1 year before she finally died - totally sad. :( Your pitch is excellent, so set the hook for me to read your book. :) When you use short paragraphs & lots of dialogue, it makes me want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next. I'm backing your book. :) Could you please take a moment to back my TWO memoir books? Thanks. :) Love, Susie :)

This is information from authonomy (so beware of any other untrue information you may receive that is spam & not quotes of authonomy):
"When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved"
"Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, your recommendation pushes the book up the rankings. And while that book sits on your bookshelf, your reputation as a talent spotter increases depending on how well that book performs."

backed :)
Love, Susie :)
