Layby lovin':BDSM and Truckin'

K. G. Berlin

A truck driver is reluctantly blanched into the world of BDSM and discovers he can’t get enough. Strap in, strap on and haul (his) ass.

I lost a bet to a mate and my motorbike was at stake. In order to win it back my task was to get laid once a month dating online. To make matters worse my mate chose a BDSM site. Given that I’m a truck driver with a heavy schedule it was down to me to seize every opportunity I could in order to be reacquainted with my bike.

Now I knew nothing of Bondage and Sadomasochism when I began this task but my experiences have made me a real convert. I’ve met single mum’s in picnic areas, parked my rig outside professional Dominatrix’s in London, been caught up with posh ladies in the country, played with County level table tennis players in a Travelodge and been kidnapped by a gang of commercial Dommes up North. I regret none of it.

The journey has certainly opened my eyes (not to mention a few other places lol) so it’s time to share it as they say. Sex sells but it looks as if I'll be living in provety for the rest of my life as my experiences sadly involved no sex...no drugs...only flops and spectacular woes...

I just read the first chapter so far. Bloody funny with the caravan on the roll, then the Major catching you guys, especially with Brenda caught in the harness. Then the Major's wife getting it wrong and hitting her husband. I don't blame you for running. Off to read chapter 2.

Dude...this is a hoot!

Sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it. I have six kids man...need I say more? I really liked the story. It was funny, well thought out and flows well, and was captivating from sentence one. I can certainly see this in the bookstores for mass market and doing well. I have never backed a book I didn't like or felt worthy, trust me, (there's been few that will remain unnamed), but I've backed yours. Love it! Luck be yours!

More absurd than Beckett, authentic voice, made me smile and egoless enough to call yourself a bit of a minger - got to back it.

Having read three chapters and laughed a lot I suddenly noticed this is biographical, you naughty boy. I will certainly wonder when I drive past the lorry parks what’s going down. You have made a very god job of this and the fact that it all started as a bet brings all the more credibility to it. I cant find any nits in it and the content is enough to keep the pages turning. I really hope this does well for you a bit of smut can liven up the day.

K.G., I think this could be one for HC/Scott Pack's Friday Project... Best Blog on the Net turned into bestseller, kind of thing. The Stig before he became the Stig...the real Stig's Assistant tells All. Ha. Mind you, like his program, that the Americans are trying to do a version of... Tarantino will grab the movie rights and turn you into an American trucker with a cuckolded Shorty getting Chili chasin' your ass all the way up to the Ice highway... Okay, script done. I can see it all. Box Office gold.

Your writing voice is just great, truly it is. Yeah, a few typo/spelling errors, but who cares with that voice? (I'm still wondering what that green liquid was at the beginning, though...the mind boggles.) Suggestion - you could end the pitch with a question as to whether you got that bike back.). (Give it more of a 'novel' angle.) Or tag it for HarperTrue - they're looking at those...

I haven't stopped laughing yet... and if you're not the real Stig's Assistant, I hear they're looking for one. Good gear...

I believe every single word of this... and back it before it gets to the Ice highway.

What do I say? This is zany, ridiculous, addictive, amusing, absurd and good honest 'almost' clean fun.
I'm not sure if I would have picked this off a bookshelf but as backed by the author, I gladly gave it a read in return.
Whether you will ever sit comfortably on your bike again, I know not but I'll certainly give truckers a different look from now on!
Shelved with an odd grin on my face. Margaret.

Very interesting true story - lots of excitement and drama. Chapter one, "Brenda", is I think a good sampling of your writing. Confident and entertaining with lots of energy - you make me feel like I'm on an expedition of sorts reading this - Pidgeon and Fast Eddy look like good friends to have and the encounter with Brenda was, interesting. Good luck in finding a publisher.

PCreturned wrote 632 days ago

Erm... this is certainly different, in a good way. :)

Great start with the bet setting up the plot. Then we get the unfortunate incident with the caravan wheeling out while the unfortunate Brenda's all trussed up. And the confused major trying to spring to the rescue. :)

I think your story's a lot of fun. In the ludicrous situations and embarassing moments, it reminds me quite a bit of Tom Sharpe's style. No bad thing at all. :)

I can easily see people enjoying your book. I'm happy to back it. :)

Hi KG,
Sorry it's taken me so long, but I finally got around to reading. I was afraid from your pitch that I'd find this a bit on the salacious side, but I'm very happy to find nothing of the sort! I really enjoyed your down to earth humour. It's vivid and graphic without being crude. Great fun.

Layby Loving has an aggressively sexual suggestive title and the pitch promises, no, threatens eroticism. I selected it only because its author had backed my efforts. I was reluctant at first, read hesitantly and expected any moment to pitch forward into unadulterated sex instead of which I was confronted by -------well timed, humorous escapades worthy of Henry Fielding with more than a passing nod to window cleaner Timothy Lee. Laugh out loud with a new slant on the British love of caravans. One thought, the pitch could be off putting for some readers and this would be a great pity. For me -- dix points! BACKED. I love this. You tap into the myriad world of online potential. A trucker who gets caught up with BDSM by Internet dating. Of course, what else do you expect a modern young man to do. Yes, sex sells and it helps to keep the reader turning the page. Blogs, dares, pulling birds on the road, and picnic parking areas available to BDSM trysts. This book is full of it. Backed for now.

When I was reading it, I thought like you were simply leaking out the things from your mind. You have the writing talent but you have to get more serious handling your plot and your dialogues.
Good luck to your writing career my friend.

KG, you're a walking disaster, man. The caravan scene was almost in danger of getting hot, before it went walkabout, then Domme-in-Acton wanted removals rather than insertions, and ends up loading her BDSM equipment and buddies in your lorry just in time for the local coppers to stumble across it. All this pales to insignificance when compared to getting Sam's stud wedged between your front teeth. Cringingly, painfully hilarious; I'm fairly sure this isn't chick-lit, and suspect that erotica is pushing it slightly too. Adult, yep, comedy, yep, biography ... are you sure you want to admit it? Trusting you got your bike back ... you earned it ... backed.

Most requests to take a look at someone's writing comes with a promise to return the favor. Since you didn't say that I was not sure what to expect. Nevertheless, I took a look. Based on your pitch, this is not what I expected at all. In my opinion, it's funny and rather well written. I have to say I really don't care for chick lit if that is the genre you are going for. Any writing is an exercise in hard work. You put your self into it if you are doing it right and it seems you have done that with this story.

I'll back you to give you a boost on your way to the Editor's Desk. Best of luck.

Excellent sense of intelligent humour throughout this piece. There's a real rich sense of culture and an engaging and erotic world hinted at within the first few pages. One thing, should the title be "Lovin'" rather than "Lovnin"?

BDSM site? I don't know that one. I assume many people do know, but it might be helpful to a reader to spell it out the first time you mention it in the text. I read the first chapter and it was really great. I loved the humor from beginning to end and damn if I knew the slang you used (cultural relativism), but I got the big picture. My only suggestion is to check for missing commas. Finally, I thought there were a couple of places where dialogue with Brenda would have been better than the one-sided paraphrasing, eventhough it is first person POV.

" I though (thought) the caravan . . ."
" . . . and stone me if she didn't reversed (reverse) it . . ."

Thanks for the swap and the best of luck with this work.

KG, how many books have you written before? Are you having a bit of a joke with us and you're a professional writer who's driven a truck for research?
I have to be honest and say this is not my sort of reading though I've learned a lot - what BDSM stands for, for example.
But your narrative is some of the most engaging I've read anywhere. Yes, sometimes the tense changes from past to present but who cares in this case? You're continuing in the long tradition of rumbustious literature from Chaucer to H.E.Bates - and now you. And I'm sure you're not a minger. Backed with very best wishes, Lynn
