On Progressivism: The Battle for the Future of America

Josh Grimes

How has America come from where we were founded to where we are today? The answer is simple: the Progressive.

Progressivism has been a cancer that has eaten away at the very fabric of what makes America great. Through his tireless efforts, the Progressive has done everything he can to wear away America's exceptionalism. It is still possible to undo what has been done over the better part of the last century, but the window of opportunity is quickly closing. On Progressivism explains the battle that is occuring right now for the future of America and the two opposing sides: the Progressive and the Conservative. To return America to its former glory, we must truly understand everything that is happening, which includes properly comprehending our past and our future. On Progressivism details several conflicts that have defined our country in the past, such as economics, government supremacy, and the welfare state, as well as current issues like immigration, energy policy and terrorism. Using common sense and rationality, On Progressivism explains the problems and offers real solutions, grounded in our Constitution and the tenants of conservatism.

hullo Josh. As I have looked through the comments that you have gained concerning 'the Battle', you have indeed upset one individual, 'Chris' in particular, but I suppose that would be his right, if he were an American. Didn't we seperate from the Mother country some time ago? Regardless, I agree that a 'Nanny state' is not the way to go, at least for America since our independance and freedom to choose is Capitalism not socialism. But, I do not want this discussion to get out of hand. Very good.Already shelved and backed.
Please take a look at my book if you have not and thanks for that.

Backed On Progressivism... A very timely book. I think this book would fly off the shelves considering the bad press the movement is getting on the FOX news channel. Good luck!

This is the worst sort of polemical diatribe I have yet to read - it's almost sub-Mein Kampf. Fortress America getting all paranoid about pinko commies, foreigners, and its failure to maintain its 'former glory days'. How paranoid are you, bub?
Of course we need trade unions, otherwise the bosses would run even MORE roughshod over the workforce than they are doing already. Look how many you've (the capitalist system) now has unemployed in the US - tens of millions. Capitalism has failed miserably. It isn't state benefits that's at fault, it's the whole profit system and it needs doing away with NOW.
Typical of a rant of your kind, you criticise socialism/communism with absolutely no understanding of history, let alone the likes of Karl Marx, Lenin or Trotsky and their work. You only remember Stalin and what he and his successors did and you equate that with what socialism is and you're wrong. A river of blood separates Stalin from Lenin etc.
Democratic socialism is what Lenin and Trotsky founded after the Russian Revolution in 1917. It was only because Russia was such an industrially backward state at that time and that the working class there had just been through the slaughterhouse of World War I followed by a murderous Civil War when 21 foreign armies (including British and American troops by the way) invaded, by then that the Russian working class was exhausted, Lenin died and Stalin took over by stealth. He was a bureaucrat who stifled the democratic aspects of the revolution. But even Stalin did not dare take back the basic gains of the Russian people - gone was the homelessness, unemployment and famines. But there was no democracy and Stalin did install a police state. What was needed was a second, political revolution to provide the genuine democracy socialism demands but it did not happen. That is not to say it will never happen. People used to laugh about the idea that man could could one day fly or land on the moon!
If even the fatally flawed system of Stalinism (the distorted workers' state) could transform Russia from the semi-feudal state it was before WWI to the world superpower it became in the space of ten years, then there is something to it. It took capitalist America nearly two hundred years to achieve world superpower status.
So read more history and try to get a proper, filled out idea of what socialism REALLY is.

Ironically, I supported your work, not because of the ideas espoused, but the very liberal liberties you seem to rally against. Whether I believe in or support such ideologies, I can see past my own political philosophy and appreciate a well crafted piece of fiction.

Backed this a few days ago. Sorry for the late comment.

You're passionate all right! My political beliefs are polar opposite from yours. But being an open minded progressive, I am backing your book so that you can exercise the freedom of speech that we hold so dear in the U.S., and which progressives have defended for decades!

Would you consider backing MEMORIES OF GLORY? I thank you for taking a look. My teenage MC thinks a lot about women's rights and women's place in the world. She is no pushover, and conservative she is not! You might like her.

A contraversial read that may strike a chord with some, but I like your presentation, and you make convincing arguments. Up in Canda we are not so different, and this is a valid warning for us all. Backed.

Josh: wishing you the best on this website. But remember the caveat: you can only get out of it what you put into it. Both pitches work for this non-fiction genre. BACKED!

I can use your comments on my novel when you get a chance. Cheers!

ON PROGRESSIVEISM
This book is a thought provoking read. I think you present your argument well (altho maybe a little one sided). I’m sure you’ll find an audience for this among people who are unhappy with the status quo and have been looking for some words to guide them as to what to do about that. I’m adding it to my shelf. If you have a moment, would you look at mine (Grain of Salt)? I’m in 8th place but only holding on by my teeth. Burgio

I am happy to take a look and comment on your book but I am not a professional reader. Please do have a look at mine; I would welcome your comments.
This is how the site works. You collect backings and comments which move you up the rankings to the ED's desk - if this is your wish. Do put some books on your shelf straight away. It is the best way to get your own book noticed.
To comment on a writer's book, go to the book page, click 'read the book' and then write in the comment box at the bottom. If you wish to back the book, click 'back the book'.
Do not reply to comments in your own comment box. Rather, go to that person's profile page and leave them a message there. You can message anyone like this at any time.
It is useful to keep a list of who you back, you will soon lose track.
It is considered a courtesy to view the books of people who back you but there is no obligation to back in return.
Read swaps are when you mutually exchange books, usually for the purpose of gaining ranking points. You will be inundated with requests, take your time to feel your feet.
If you have any questions most people here are great and very helpful.
Anyway, good luck with your book, Jim Darcy

Your book is well written and well thought out, but as a Brit (rather an English woman) I know little of American politics. However English politics, as well as the English way of life, has fallen so far from its erstwhile heights that today to see a politician's lips moving is to know he/she is lying! Sorry if this sounds bitter, but your book touched a nerve - I've been around for many decades and have watched decline upon decline with no sign of hope for future. Oh, did you awaken the sleeping disconcert in me!

DP Walker wrote 671 days ago

Hi Josh
Not knowing that much about American politics, so this was an interesting insight. I think you have raised several points for discussion and this should make this popular, regardless of peoples' own viewpoints.

Dear Josh
WOW what a read. You have portrayed a passion here, and your truth and with courage. What you have written is a well crafted understanding of how some things are. I was grabbed by your short pitch that insisted I read on and your long pitch showed me that this was going to be a read that would propose questions and push boundaries. GREAT WORK. for sure. I have a suggestion regarding the long pitch and that is to put in paras as this may be the first read your potential publisher will have of your book, and it could give the impression of being long, when it is not. only a suggestion
BACKED BY ME FOR SURE
I do hope you will review my book, comment and most of all BACK it. but either way the BEST of luck with yours

Hi Josh, can you explain the sentence return America to it's former glory. I can't remember when that time was.

Do you mean when they were bombing Vietnam? or Korea? Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan?

Ah, I get it. you mean to good old world war days, or maybe when the Brits were in charge. Now, those were the glory days and let's face it, they didn't get much more conservative than the redcoats. lol
Best wishes,
Barry

Dear Josh, I love that you've endeavored to convince the world to turn from what's not right - the foundation of our country is pretty neat that you listed all of that - with titles points on each subject. Thank you. If everyone would just believe that the whole Bible is true & live by it, wouldn't it be wonderful? :) Your pitch is excellent, so set the hook for me to read your book. :) When you use short paragraphs & lots of dialogue, it makes me want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next. I'm backing your book. :) Could you please take a moment to back my TWO memoir books? Thanks. :) Love, Susie :)

This is information from authonomy (so beware of any other untrue information you may receive that is spam & not quotes of authonomy):
"When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved"
"Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, your recommendation pushes the book up the rankings. And while that book sits on your bookshelf, your reputation as a talent spotter increases depending on how well that book performs."
backed :)
Love, Susie :)
