Night Over Fighter's Avenue

Asher Freeman

An affectionate superhero parody of a neophyte hero working his way up, before uncovering a terrible plot.

The City of Heropolis: active tourism, pleasant weather, great nightlife, and absolutely packed with superheroes. Every day has a new epic battle, every school has a nerd with a double life, everybody knows the stories, the conventions. If a hero can make it there, he can make it anywhere. And that's exactly what young Chris Horvitz, aka The Cyan Hornet, intends to do. He's got the equipment, he's got the genes, he's seen Kickass a dozen times over, so bring it on, crime! Unfortunately, CHs' tactics leave something to be desired, and his first night is almost murder. Fortunately, our hero encounters a mysterious figure known only as Sting Bat, who reluctantly agrees to help. But CHs' new lifestyle will be far from smiles and roses. Every superhero needs a disproportionate number of enemies, after all. Enemies like the monstrous Vernim, and the dark and terrible Prof. Malicious. But even as CH is embroiled in a plot that threatens everything he knows, Sting Bats' past begins to encircle him...just what is the Red Dragon, and what does it mean for the world? One thing's for certain, CHs' world will never be the same again.

Nice twist to the genre and fantasy lovers are going to love this one. You weave the science and fiction really well and the theme is clever. The character CH is portrayed really well and your style is engaging.

This is well contructed and I see it going places. Will be back to read and comment more but for now i am happry to support this.

It was a pleasure to read.

I just want to say thank you all for your kind words; I'm not even sure I deserve most of them! I might add more things to my website (http://www.freeman.org.uk/Site/NOFA.html) to tie into the book, but in the mean time thank you all so much for your support!

This was really interesting and kind of funny! I love CH, a very inexperienced superhero who just wants to be part of it all. You've got a great writing style too, it made me wanna keep reading and the humor mixed in just kicked it up another notch. I love the line about police deciding that no more than 3 superheros could be at a crime scene. I think you said a lot about the city in that one line. You've got a great imagination and I'm hoping I can eventually read more of this!

Hi Asher,
You're creating a nice mix of humour and action thriller here, with some original ideas and sparkling dialogue. I'm enjoying reading about our amateur superhero figuring it our as he goes along. "And don't forget to clean your teeth" was a great line (good old mums). I liked the intro chapter, and then the concept of Valids and the ungrateful lady on his first rescue. The action is well described and Bat Sting is great.
Backed with pleasure,
Barry

That little touch of the direction down into the narrative is a useful device and something which you employ well. A strong addition to the science fiction genre.

You have written a very interesting and unique storyline, which I do like, and created a most memorable main character in CH. The dialogue is realistic and well written and the pace of your story flows well. All of this along with your descriptive writing makes your science fiction fantasy a pleasure to read. Backed.

Dear Asher

I loved your short and long pitch both really sell your book which they are meant too so CONGRATS, and love the way you write. Your ability with words to craft an orginal read is amazing. the characters have decided to take up permanent residence but i will insist they leave soom to go home. ha! I have to wonder on this site at the
creations that come from peoples heads and of course the immense talent of those like yourself to animate
such colorful characters. I truly wish I had half your talent.

Please take a moment to look, COMMENT which is important to me, and BACK my book. if not that is OK
also

BACKED BY ME FOR SURE.
The VERY best of luck to you
