Great story, character, and voice! for the YA audience, you may want to work on more white space on the page, by using more frequent paragraphing and tightening the prose. Aside from needing a little cull and polish, this was thoroughly enjoyable. I'm not a YA, but I enjoyed it.

Joyce: this seems to work for the YA genre. There is nothing I can add to it other than BACK it.

I can use your comments on my book when you get a chance. Cheers!

You have crafted a most compelling and interesting fantasy which is well written and your use of imagery is excellent. I do like your choice to utilize the first person narrative voice and your character development of Otus is well done. All of this coupled with your descriptive writing style ensures that your work will appeal to the YA audience. Backed with pleasure.

OATH OF THE DOVE
This is an interesting story. The beginning is dramatic: a baby sleeps for a hundred years. When he wakes up, Otus is a good character. He’s likable and intriguing because a reader knows he has secret powers that are waiting to manifest themselves. Makes this fantasy world a good read. I’m adding it to my shelf. If you have a moment, would you look at mine (Grain of Salt)? I’m in 4th place but only holding on by my teeth. Burgio

what a very good start to an involving story! i did notice a couple of places where you have strange spacing but if you decide to upload it again make sure your word count does not drop below 10k. Backed on behalf of Jim Darcy who is on holiday. If you like fantasy then please take a look at The Firelord's Crown. It is a great read. :)
