The Swivel Chair Diaries

Benjamin W. Doty

The world's first comedic play about Che Guevara at the darkest, most depressing time in his life--at the Cuban Ministry of Finance!

Che Guevara finds himself bored in the lackluster work of the Cuban Minister of Finance. He must find something new, something that will change society and create the ideal man for the 21st century. At the same time, mishaps in the ministry creates a financial debacle that could jeopardize Cuba's entire relationship with the Soviet Union. Conflicts arise as Che must find the money the Cuban government desperately needs and develop a new society that will get rid of money all together. The play dives into the problems and possibilities of a society transitioning from Socialist to Communist...never minding and completely distant from the time and place in which it was written.

This is funny! I love it when there are plays added to the site, they are a refreshing break from the novels! You've done a wonderful job on this, the dialogue works perfectly and I stayed involved. I've read a lot about Che and you've kept that feeling in your play.

Dear Benjamin,
Your play is humorous and well written. The content is not exactly my cup of tea, but I give you credit for well constructed dialog.

Very witty in parts. The Che character has a lot to say and says it with dry frustration.

Hi Ben,
A truly sparkling piece of work. I want to see it live.
I especially liked,
'Hey Ernesto, get out of the bathroom.'
'this happened all the time in the fifties'
the use for the 400,000 dollars.
Oh no, not Jose.
and many other great lines.
Backed with real pleasure,

Sorry for the format. It doesn't look anything like it did on my word document. Thanks for the comments.

The small print is murder on my eyes.
Read parts…nice voice, good balance.
Backed.

Very amusing Benjamin, esp comment on Krushiev, and Socrates jibes.
My suggestions relate to firstly, make it a begger font, also split up into 2 bits for reading.

Finally, the long monologue of Che at the end could be split up by the playwrite adding info on Che's movements / expressions on stage. As I am sure he would not just stand there an say it blandly. [Take it from someone who knows!]

All the best. I will back it, and hope you add more stort plays to this.

Woulds appreciate if you could reciprocate.

Just when you think there is nothing new under the sun, along comes a play like this. Excellent work. Backed. Looking forward to seeing its performance off-Broadway (where all the real creative action is).

Hi Benjamin, this is hysterically funny. I loved it. I giggled with the talk of the abacus and also the idea of calling a revolutionary 'Sir' and his objection. It was just funny from start to end. Backed.

Dear Benjamin, I love your darling play with Che Guevara. :) How delightful! :) Your pitch sucked me in to read & your charming setting & dialogue kept me reading. :) I love that you have it all in one chapter so that I didn't have to keep waiting for new chapters to come up. :) Hope you'll write many more books. :) I've backed your book :) - hope you'll take a moment to back my memoir book. :) Thanks so very much. :) Love, Susie :)

This is information from authonomy (so beware of any other untrue information you may receive that is spam & not quotes of authonomy):
"When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved"
"Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, your recommendation pushes the book up the rankings. And while that book sits on your bookshelf, your reputation as a talent spotter increases depending on how well that book performs."
