Travelfreaks: The Great Adventure

Tony Jackson

Ever thought about giving up that 9-5 job? Selling the car? How about selling the house? Had enough of the rat race?

It is the inquisitiveness of human nature that gnaws away at us, constantly questioning, is this it?... Is my life really mapped out for me? For most people, the answer is yes.

So many of us dream about seeing the world, so very few us are prepared to take that leap and break away from the ties that trap us in the 'race' to embark on an adventure. To change, to challenge, to explore. I don't for one minute suggest booking a yearly package holiday and trying to see as many different countries every year before the inevitible happens. I'm not even going to start talking about the possibility of buying a 'round the world' ticket and visiting the well trodden tourist traps that seem to be ever more popular. But what I am asking you to consider is this...What if we no longer want to be in this race? What if, we were to give up everything to find out what is out there beyond this race? What if...?
From giving up their careers to selling all of their belongings and having nothing left but the packs on their backs!

Just the sort of writing and book I buy!
Backed with pleasure - I really wish you good luck with this - Non Fiction has a tough time on here, take my word for it!

Just correcting previous typo: for rediculous read ridiculous - that's all!

Supa_Silva wrote 479 days ago

Quite frankly, I don't agree with eurodan49's comments! So please don't stop using the past tense way of writing, as you are so good at it and the words just seem to flow. You could lose continuity.
Also, to suggest there is too much "telling" with "little showing" is quite rediculous.
It's a book for God's? (man's?) sake and the best great adventures are told by great story tellers!
(If a picture paints a thousand words, why bother reading a book???)

A journey that I will probably never take so this is the next best thing, interesting view of the world through others eyes, good stuff

eurodan49 wrote 584 days ago

Only had time for 3 chapters.
The narration is good but too much “telling” with little “showing.”
Also, the past tens disconnects me some. Making it in present tens would draw the reader closer. Also, just in 3rd chapter do you have dialogue. More of that (in 1 and 2) would make for a faster pace and so much more personal. Just an idea.
I did enjoy your voice and I’m backing your work.
Good luck with landing representation.
Dan
PS. Could you pls check mine? Comment/backing will be appreciated.

TRAVEL FREAKS: THE GREAT ADVENTURE by Tony Jackson.

"To live is to leave behind - to be free as a traveller who has given up everything." This voyage is not quite Jules Verne nor Ranulph Wickham -Twistleton - Fiennes but an enjoyable read nonetheless. I recommend sensible shoes. I hope your sandals are as good as my yompers. When I bought them I was told that, in the event of extreme emergency: the helicopter's broken down; the Samaritan's line is permanently engaged that sort of thing... I could chew them and survive on the minerals and multi-vitamins impregnated throughout the materials. I never go anywhere without them. As your book is posted as incomplete Tony, I look forward to reading more in due course. I don't Back for Backings: besides, my books are in Times New Roman. But Mrs. Harper & Mr. Collins expect every authonomite to do their duty. We must not disappoint them. Backed.

Oh my gosh, I am loving this! I've always dreamed of quitting my life and just traveling. It's nice to read about other people doing it. Someday I finally will and this book was inspiring in a sense. It made my feet itch to get moving! You have a great writing style for this kind of book too. Easy to read, fun, and thought provoking. You make your words come alive, to sound a little cliche. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I hope this gets the attention it deserves and winds up on my travel book shelf one day.

Tony,
At presant I have small children who would not appreciated being bundled up in a back pack and carted all over the world. For some reason they like to eat regularily and play with their friends. (sigh) So in the meantime, I will just have to tag a long with you on your written adventure!
Best of luck,

Great journey. I'm sure there will be more! Could use an edit...a few typos, but liked the concept! A shame you don't return read requests, comments, or backings.

Dear Tony, I love that you shared your story of plans to travel & coming to Minnesota with your entries of your visit. :) Your pitch told me your plans & I was excited that you put me right there with you in your story to feel what you were feeling. Great write. :) Can hardly wait to see what happens in the rest of your journeys. :) I've backed your book :) - could you please take a moment to back my memoirs book? :)

This is information from authonomy (so beware of any other untrue information you may receive that is spam & not quotes of authonomy):
"When you back a book, it only improves the ranking of that book, not yours. However, the author whose book you are backing may decide to back your book also, in which case yes, your ranking would be improved"
"Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, your recommendation pushes the book up the rankings. And while that book sits on your bookshelf, your reputation as a talent spotter increases depending on how well that book performs."

Andrew Burans wrote 595 days ago

You have written a very interesting and unique true storyline, which I do like. The pace of your story flows well. Your excellent first person narrative voice coupled with your straight forward writing style is perfect for this genre of book. All of this along with your descriptive writing makes your work a pleasure to read. Backed.

Tony,
Travelfreaks: The Great Adventure is a treasure. I was unaware it was possible to do so much traveling on a limited budget in the twenty-first century. It reminded me of Leo DiCaprio talking about his travels in Titanic. When Jack reveals to Rose that he has been to Paris, she replies, "Paris? You do get around for a poor...well, a person of limited means." It's coming back to the theaters in April of 2012 in three dimensions and could use a novelization. It's a good thing someone thought of that in May of 1999 and dared to do the research for it. Travelfreaks is a great resource to the reader who needs a practical approach to a new life style. It was an adventure simply reading about it and I wish I could take it home with me. Backed with pleasure.

I enjoyed every line of your pre travel plan. Very well written and would definitely come back to see what happens further on.

What a brave decision and one that you will carry all the days of your life. Sure wish I could do same.

It's now October so where are you??? On Authonomy.

Backed with pleasure
