Someone Lost Their Life: Imprisoned Voices of Resistance, Remorse, and Redemption

Dr. Nandi Sojourner Crosby

A collection of essays about current prisoners' expressions of guilt, struggle, and reconciliation.

Someone Lost Their Life... is a collection of first-hand essays about incarcerated men and women who, in dialogue with the author, shared experiences related to their life in prison. Getting personal with murderers, robbers, sex offenders, and drug addicts, the author teases out how the social environments of prison and the ordeal of isolation influence how inmates process issues of accountability, remorse, and opposition to authority.

Dear Dr. Nandi, I love that you have taken the time to interview & convey from people in prison how the are thinking :) - what an amazing ministry! :) I know serveral who have been in/& or still in - some are penitent & others went right back to being criminals, so there is some hope as you've shown in some of your interviews. :) Your pitch prepared me for sad stories & your tight dialogue & paragraphs brought me right through chapter 6. :) May the Lord have mercy on these poor people & make Himself real to them, even the solitary confinement ones. :) Thank you for your dramatic stories. :) I've backed your book :) - could you please take just a moment to back my memoirs book? :) Thanks so very much. :) Love, Susie :)

I admire the bravery of the author of this account as she has interviewed people I would never want to have been in contact with and produced an insightful commentary which is very educational. Backed with pleasure.

Your work is well written, articulate and very informative. I also like how you use the first person narrative voice. Backed with pleasure.

A refreshing change from so much of what is paraded before us on this website. Very insightful and very well articulated. I confess to being one of the 'lock 'em up and throw away the key' brigade and there are many instances when talking to hard core criminals must seem like a waste of time, even to experienced counsellors and therapists. But there are obviously cases where it is all worthwhile and full marks to those, like you, who are at least trying. On a small point of detail I have listened to many a human rights speech by Russians which referred to Leonard Peltier, whose case was always raised in response to US criticism of the Soviet and later Russian human rights record.

Best wishes Philip John
