The Crusader

Mauricio Castillo

How can one have hope, when there is so much blood? One man’s crusade leads him into an abyss of violence, tragedy, and pain.

His name is Caleb.
THEY know him as the Half-Breed.
Born from the womb of a human woman by the seed of a vampire. Trained since childhood to become a hunter, he believes that the more of THEM he kills, the closer he will come to finally having his own virus cured by God, his own curse removed. His home, New York City, is all but overrun, with the rest of the world following suit. By day, the city tries to be a mere shadow of its former self. By night, THEY walk. By night, Caleb and his elite team hunt. He protects mankind, considering himself one of us and not one of THEM. He has struck fear in the hearts of every single one of THEM, but now, a new force has emerged in the city.
A force that has lived for centuries, and in all those years, has known no equal…

The monstrous, sadistic vampire makes its overdue-return in this action-packed, dramatic, gory tale set in a dreary, profane, dystopian New York City that follows an enigmatic hunter as he fights against the vampiric threat, along with his own inner demons.
Book 1 of “The Crusader” Trilogy.

I'm through three chapters and already hooked. Backed and reading more. When I get done reading I'll offer up a comment less "I LOVE IT" and more "this might help" but I can't do both at once, not if I want to really enjoy myself, and I want to REALLY enjoy myself with this one.

Hi. Regretfully, I only had tome to brows through but I like your voice and I’m back it. I’ll try to come back for more and in depth commentary. Tell me which chapter you would like me to pay close attention to?
Meantime, could you please check TO KILL A DEAD MAN?
Thanks.
Dan

The Crusader was recommended by CC Brown author of Dark Side. I read, rated, and BACKED your work. Love this stuff! Hope you have a chance to take a look at Dark Side and find a spot for it on your shelf. Thanks.

thanx alot for your review! And yeah, I was afraid of being compared to "Blade" but I made sure to go as far as I could from that take on the hybrid vampire. I love that aspect of the mythology though, and using that I tried to make the mythology my own. Glad you liked it!

I saw your message on the forum, and as promised, you did produce a very good 3rd chapter. It was full of action, which I like, and had good characters, that were well thought out. In a way, the concept of the half human/half vampire reminds me of "Blade." However, it is not the same, and definitely has variations. I liked the Catholic element to the story, and think it adds nicely to the vampire-good against evil scenario. Your book also looks like something that YAs would be interested in, as vampires are all the rage now, plus, you have the action to back it up. Only one note: Be careful of using the word "suddenly." I'd take them out as it always pulls me up. The rest of the words should give the reader the sense of how fast things are happening without needing this word.

All the best - Marita.

Backed The Crusader. Ohhhh...we do love a good vampire tale! Great prologue. We were hooked with the phrase "crused werewolves and child-hunting vampires." Good Luck on Atuhonomy! Hope you will check out our vamprie thriller, Dark Side.

that was exactly my goal in writing this manuscript, a new reimagining and rebirth of the vampire mythology

How totally wonderful you are, Mauricio!! :) Thank you so very much for backing my memoirs/testimony book. :) May God richly bless you. :) Love, Susie :) p.s. I have also gold ******-rated your book :) - could you please ****** mine, too. Every ****** -ing & backing more than 24 hours moves our books up authonomy's lists. :) I want to ask you if you could please keep my book on your bookshelf because, I'm #1 on the editor's desk & I don't want to lose traction & to remain in the top 5 to be chosen February 28. :) Please read my profile page: I had a mini-stroke Nov. 10 with slurred speech for an hour & numbness of tongue still & over 24 smaller ones where I couldn't speak since & I"d sure like to cross the finish line of the editor's desk after almost 1 year of trying on authonomy. :) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me :) - I have lost 3 sisters to strokes & my last sister, Mary had 2 heart attacks this past year.

Dear Mauricio, I love that this is the first of a trilogy & it sounds totally exciting about "Caleb"... known "as the Half Breed born"... "of a human woman by the seed of a vampire... believes that the more of them he kills, the closer he will come to finally having his own virus cured by God, his own curse removed... by night, Caleb and his elite team hunt... protects mankind, considering himself one of us and not one of them... fights against the... monstrous sadistic vampire, along with his own evil demons," as your pitch portrays. :) WOW!! :) What a story!! :) As I got to the end of your prologue & the figure asked, "What... year is it?" & I thought of The Terminator when they went through time & that's the 1st thing they'd ask, "What year is it?" & I laughed & was so glad you used this wonderful unique phrase & I'm still laughing. :) Amazing that bullets didn't even stop Caleb. :) I love that, "Caleb took time out every day to pray." :) I laughed "on the wall... pictures of different vampires" & tried to picture them on my wall instead of what I have of all my family & friends & just laughed again at the thought of anyone seeing vampire pictures on my walls :) - it really tickled me :) - your writing so much puts me right there to feel what you are feeling. :) "You are not God" that Caleb said, was extremely good. :) "the most powerful vampire... 638 years... path of death and destruction... seven continents," now dead. :) I wanted to give a high-five. :) Amazing story & I can hardly wait to read your next book. :) I have read & commented on your book & will back it more than 24 hours when space opens on my bookshelf. :) I have also gold ******-rated your book :) - could you please ****** & back my memoirs/testimony book, in return? :) I would so much appreciate it because I have been trying for almost a year to be chosen in the top 5 of the editor's desk & was #4 on 1-1-11, but 2 people passed me, pushing me out to #6, so I wasn't chosen January 31 & I'm now trying, as #1 to stay anchored in the top 5 & not slide out again, to be chosen February 28. :) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help. :) Love, Susie :) p.s. every ******-ing moves our books up authonomy's lists, as does backing more than 24 hours & the longer on our bookshelves, the more they move up, per authonomy's new rules Oct 2010 :) - click on author's name, scroll down their profile page & click on their book cover or title & their book will come up :) - then, ****** & "back the book" :)

Walden,

I appreciate your feedback so much thank you for your words its exactly what I was going for...

but don't let "The Crusader" deter you, New York is actually a pretty amazing place lol

Mauricio,
The Crusader is a truly terrifying vampire tale. I wanted to scream as I read Half Breed. Your descriptions paint vivid images and some of them are quite gruesome. Now I'm sure I don't want to visit New York City. Rated with six stars.
