A Walk With Miriam

Kat Cannon

Walk side-by-side through the Exodus story with Miriam, sister of Moses and leader of the Hebrew people.

Put yourself in Miriam's shoes as God sets His children free from slavery and sets them on the road to the Promised Land. This Bible study walks students through the narratives of Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, picturing events through the eyes of Moses' sister. Each week's lesson begins with a fictional narrative from Miriam's life, making sights and sounds come alive. The twelve lessons are divided into five days of study: reading and responding, inductive bible study, cross references and "A Mile In Her Shoes." Typologies of Christ are highlighted on every page as God's redemptive plan unfolds through this Old Testament story.

Kat - this is certainly an interesting approach and I think it is quite rare to see a combination of fiction and study questions. The questions certainly add some "gravitas" to the whole thing and prove that the book is not just light fluff but has a serious purpose behind it. I hope this is picked up by a publisher as it deserves wider circulation....5 stars from me!

I love this piece! It is such an encouragement to learn from Biblical figures that are often overlooked. Your understanding of scripture is remarkable, and your writing style leaves me wanting more. Giving you many stars. Well-done!

I like the idea of walking through Miriam's story. Not a lot is written about her in the Bible but she must have seen and done some amazing things! The way you write really brings her to life. I think this would be a great study to do with a group of women. The bite-sized chunks and probing questions are really great and you keep everything rooted in scripture and pointing towards God. I hope you find a publisher for this.

Kat,
I relish finding historical fiction set in Biblical times. It's fabulous to see historical characters from the Bible in a work written in modern-day English with references to God's Word. I wasn't aware Moses had a sister until I came across your book. This is an excellent way to interest people in reading the Bible. I've found the language of the Bible hard to decipher in parts and this type of Bible study is refreshing and very creative. A Walk with Miriam is an excellent Christian instructional book which has been a pleasure to review.

Kat, This is very well laid out for a devotional. I like the way you did the outline giving us pause with each lesson. I am sure this would do well in the Christian market and I like that you took this from the POV of Miriam. I love the Bible and enjoy reading, studying, and imagining myself back then. I sometimes can't phathom, though I understand why, of course walking amongst Jesus and His miracles how someone could not believe. I thank you for sharing yor thought process and study habits with us and I wish you all of God's blessings that He has waiting specifically for you...Backed and starred Patricia aka Columbia Layers of the Heart

A well thought out plan of study. The studies begin with a "story" that takes advantage of history and archeology to build a credible hook for the reader and proceed to in depth discovery on various spiritual levels. An important and valuable contribution to Christian literature. 6 stars.

Hi Kat:

Marvelous piece of work. It reminds me of Beth Moore. I like your imagery. My latest book ROCKS AND FIELDS has a similaar theme. Your book is well-written and structured and excellent flow of content. It's also edifying and uplifting besides inspirational. It also has aesthetic appeal and very creative. I enjoy your imagination. Backed with six stars.

May our Lord Jesus continue to bless you and your family.

I was emmediately drawn to your cover. It is so identical to the cover of my first book, Published by Augsburg Books-Faith and Fitness: Diet and Exercise for a Better World. You can see it on www.TomHafer.com

I love stories that explain the lesser characters in the Bible. I love your story of Miriam. Should work well with group adult sunday Schools. I backed it, loved it. I did not finsh yet. Fairly long, but keeps moving.

Thanks Kat, God bless you,

Bravo for taking Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers and making them easier to understand, and more exciting. While I would recommend people studying the Bible read the actual text, having a study guide like this along with a nice re-telling of the narrative is extremely helpful. The bible is not really too alive with the type of storytelling found today. There are not a lot of sights and sounds, things to hear and smell, no suspension of disbelief. It’s why a lot of people find the Bible to be a bit on the dry side of reading, even though the stories within are fascinating, and more filled with blood and gore than any Hollywood movie. But they are locked in an ancient way of storytelling which means they have less pull with modern readers, especially young people.

While I very much liked my church confirmation classes, a book like A Walk With Miriam would have made it even more enjoyable. I like how author Kat Cannon has created a story using modern language, yet stayed true to the source material.

I think a book like this could be published right now, as is, and would find an appreciative audience. I would recommend that the author pitch it to agents who handle the Christian market, as they (and the market) would be highly receptive to a book like this.

What a great way to bring a well-known story alive. I agree with Anne Evans - this definitely seems publishable, and all the more so with the study parts. I'd buy it! Starred accordingly!

Interesting premise and good writing. I definitely think you could find a publisher/lit. agent for this. One minor critique I had was I think you could add more immediacy to your description of Miriam's emotions. Make the reader feel the emotions along with Miriam rather than just say Miriam was intensely curious if that makes sense?

Thanks for your critique. I think you have an excellent point....

Kat,

I am extremely impressed by A Walk With Miriam. The fictional narratives are beautifully written, and they gently take the reader by the hand and lead him or her into the biblical text. Furthermore, I can tell you put a great deal of time into organizing the lessons and creating the study questions. It is clear you have, not only a tremendous knowledge of the Bible yourself, but an excellent ability to teach it.

I noticed what I believe are a few small typos:
Chpt. 1: I think you have omitted the word on. “Just as God gives us leaders today to guide us [on] our spiritual journeys…”
Chpt. 14: I think you mean to write: “We thank you for letting [us] see this day.”

Regardless, you have created an excellent book.

David

Thank you so much, David. I really appreciate your feedback.

You would be surprised as to how easy it is to have this on kindle....it is an instant process...you can also still pursue the hard copy publishing option..as you retain all copyright...

its amazing to see your written work on ipads, tablets and kindle...that is of course after careful editing.

Hello Kat:

The best way to communicate truth is to wrap it in a story. Jesus was the master of this. It is clear that you have teaching gifting and anointing.

May God richly bless and multiply your ministry!
