Learning to Lean

Mildred Colvin

Widowed mother of three struggles with financial insecurity only to meet an apparently poor father of three who sets her heart racing.

Heather Conway, daycare owner and widowed mother of three, has no extra money and very little faith. Where was God when her husband died, leaving her with no insurance, no income, and facing bankruptcy? Her fourteen-year-old son is out of control, she needs something better than their two-bedroom rental to live in, and she just bumped into a man who has her heart beating overtime. If she were sensible, she’d latch onto a childless, wealthy man who could give her the security she craves. Matt Sanders has just moved to town with his three kids and placed them into Heather’s daycare while he gets his Jack-of-all-trades construction/repair business off the ground. He may appear to be poor, but he has more going for him than meets the eye. His admiration for Heather soon turns into love as their families intertwine through church activities and work on her daycare. But six kids? Maybe Matt and Heather would be better off as friends. They soon find it’s hard to let go of the security they see and blindly trust God to take care of their tomorrows. Learning to lean on God can take a lifetime or maybe only a lesson in trust.

Mildred, I am so sorry this is all you've posted. Your character development is wonderful, especially since you bring in so many at once; I am equally invested in them all. This feels extremely natural and very relatable to many people of all ages. I love the visuals and I think the storyline is terrific, and will do well in a broad market. Please let me know if you upload more.

I love a good "story" and that's just what this is, and the underlying message comes through loud and clear but nice and subtle. You truly are a talented writer. Backed and starred with enthusiasim Patricia aka Columbia Layers of the Heart

Thank you so much for the beautiful comments. I'm honored that you like my book and hope you'll get to read the entire story. Learning to Lean is published on Amazon.com at only .99. If you leave a positive review there, that would be wonderful. God bless, Mildred

This is a beautifully written book so far. Being a widow myself, I can totally relate to Heather's situation - you captured these characters so well! Starred this and shelved it because Id buy it!

First a few paragraphs drew me in straightway. Your writing is just magnificent, beautiful story, perfect language. I love how you describe two chaotic families in such a good order. I can just see them right in front of me, it reminds me when my children were younger. I can learn the craft from your writing. I'm sure your will do well here. Starred and best of luck.

Incredible beginning. This novel has everything needed for a great read! You immediately satisfy the reader with the knowledge of where they're at not only in the physical sense but also internally with their lives. I love the way you end the first chapter, it leaves the wheels of our minds turning. If this were in my hands, I'd be flipping the page!
