Pursuing the Peaceful Path; Devotions of Faith

Julie Van Meter

Enjoy the descriptive imagery in these short, uplifting devotions. Replace fear and uncertainty with peace and encouragement for the day.

This is a book about faith - faith in a loving God who cares deeply for you. By strengthening faith, you can let go of fear and have a more fulfilling life.

These short devotions are designed to be read in about five minutes by busy people on the path of life.

The readings contain descriptions from nature. The descriptions are designed to allow you to experience the scene as if you were right there, touching, feeling, and seeing the surroundings personally.

Tension between the natural world and the heavenly world is a concept that is explored in each devotion.

As the devotion unfolds, a natural scene that is common and familiar demonstrates an aspect of God's character. For example, a thunderstorm is described to show God's power.

Scripture passages are included with each, because the Bible is God's love note to mankind. Scripture is an important way that God speaks to us and is a key part of each devotion.

May God bless you on your path!

Julie,

I stopped by to revisit Pursuing The Peaceful path and I was reminded of how helpful your devotions are for giving a reader like me a fresh and yes, peaceful and eternal perspective. Today you reminded me in your kind and reflective way that the editing process in our lives only serves to make us better. It is ugly and painful, but in the end it make us more beautiful, more like Jesus. You also showed me that when we are weary and at our wits end - when we are completely poured out - we have a Savior who sees, who cares and who will fill us up to overflowing.

You are a wonderful writer. Each story is filled with imagery, relevant applications and always contains a "seed" of encouragement and hope. I bumped your six stars!

Hello, Julie!
Popped in for another chapter of your first book, chapter three. It is very true that we must trust in God at all times, not just when things are rosy and fluffy. In my Evidences Bible class at school, we were watching a video which mentioned an event of the Holocaust that has really stuck with me. Some Jews, maybe even some Jewish boys, were getting hanged, and someone yelled out, "Where is God?" A believer pointed to those hanging and said, "He's there." God was there with those being murdered, feeling their pain right along with them. He hurts with us when we hurt, but that doesn't mean He will take all the storms away. And as you have said, we need to trust Him anyway.

Dianna,

I am glad that the devotions blessed you today. I am presently writing about how God's presence came to Elijah in a whisper and am reminded that I have to be still to hear His quiet voice. Once I am filled with the peace of God, I will have greater strength for the day.

God bless!

Julie

I just needed a fresh persective on the day. Chapter's two and three took me to the place I needed to be - quiet before the LORD, knowing He is in control of all things. Thank you for that reminder, Julie.

This is an unaffected, reassuring volume of thoughtfulness for the worried, the sore and the depressed. God knows there are enough unhappy people around, that we would love to keep this book beside us in an uncertain world. Though deeply Christian in origin, nevertheless, these tales of everyday life will help to cheer and guide us all. Highly rated and on my WL. Fran Macilvey, "Trapped"

Jonie,

Thank you for your kind words. I love the idea that the devotions are modern day parables. I had not thought of them in those exact terms before. I just know that God will often use an earthly concept or object to demonstrate for me His love or my need to trust in Him more. I tried to capture the recurrent themes between the earthly and the heavenly in each devotion.

I will look into the writings of Thomas Kempis. I just read some of his quotes and thought they were excellent.

Thanks again for your comments.

Have a blessed day!

Julie

Hello, Julie, just read your second chapter. You writing style is concise, not overly wordy or flowery. I really like that. It's also nice that you use verses in your devotionals. Are you familiar with Thomas A Kempis? I have a few selections by him in one of my school books. If you haven't read him before, you might enjoy him.

Hi, Julie, just read your first chapter. You are creating a modern-day parable about faith. I think that looking at our modern lives and striving to see parables in events and circumstances is an effective practice for the Christian. You took a common-place circumstance and connected it to faith and scripture. The passage from Job fits very well with your point. Lord willing, I"ll be back to see more. Congratulations on your high rating and thank you again for your support.

Julie,
I read the material on your first two files and felt inspired by it. You share such intimate moments with God and quote from His Word. It's a great way to draw people into reading the Bible by sharing how meaningful the Holy Scriptures are to you. I gave Pursuing the Peaceful Path; Devotions of Faith the full six stars and felt blessed to come across it.

Thank you for your feedback. I am so glad that you enjoyed the devotions. Your comments were delightful because a visual, peaceful experience is exactly what I am trying to create. I am glad that you like the brief nature of each entry. I wanted the chapters to be short but meaningful for the reader.

Thank you also for pointing out the word I incorrectly typed in the past tense. I made the necessary correction.

I have your book on my watchlist and will be reading it soon.

God bless you on your path!

Julie Van Meter

I think these are lovely. Somehow you manage with few words, to bring to a very visual sense, the fog on that morning run, for eg, or the quiet morning time (not that I'm good at mornings!) Your writing has a tanquil, peaceful feel to it somehow. One question - in chapter two, should it be 'the day LIES ahead of me....' rather than lays - I thought lay was past tense.

I hope you do well with this. Beautiful verses from the bible, short enough chapters to read and think about if you don't have ages to give to reading, but meaningful and vivid enough to offer something to take through into the day.
Cariad.

Hi Julie,
I have just finished the final chapter, and I am so glad to have your website. I will also be emailing your site to my friends. Your words need to be heard. You have truly blessed me this summer with your devotional. I will continue to follow your site.
As for me, it took me a few years to write the bible study. It is on Barnes and Noble.com, Amazon.com, and smashwords.com as an ebook. My daughter and I have also recently written a diet book that has taken a few years to write. It is called Thin and Thinner. We have a website: thinandthinner.net It is also available on those sites. As the Lord leads, I will continue to write. For now, I am in full force getting ready to go back to my classroom. This is my 25th year in teaching, but the requirements are ever changing and increasing, so it is quite a challenge time wise. I look forward to visiting you on your website. I pray that God will bless all of your endeavors.

Thank you Ida. I am encouraged by your words. I write a devotional blog and post about 2-3 times a week. You can find me at lightonmypath.wordpress.com. The first 5 or 6 devotions that come up will be new material, but the remaining 24 posts are the devotions that I put into my book here at Authonomy. I put them together into book form because I kept hearing, "You should write a book." I also felt God's prompting to listen to the voices of my friends who kept encouraging me.

How often do you write? Do you find more time to write in the summers? (I read that you are a school teacher). I hope you are having a good start to your school year.

Hi Julie,
I just finished chapter 21. I will be thinking today about the prize inside of my heart. And, I, too, think we are on a similar path, as we wait to see what God will do with our written words. I am certain with all of my heart that your devotional will be published. It is truly inspired. I hope that you continue to write, not waiting for the official publication. Once they finish reading this first devotional, your readers will likely be ready to read your next one, as I am. God bless you, Julie.

I especially love the way you use everyday experiences... from running, to sunsets, to thunderstorms, to puppies! Finding God in these moments is unquestionably a treasure. Bless you, Julie.

"Flying Through the Air with the Greatest of Ease" is a chapter that my husband and I have faced. And, just as you, we look back and see how it has made us stronger in our faith. So many are drawn to Christianity with the idea that this acceptance will insure protection from the difficulties of life. But, they soon realize that that is not what faith is all about. As in your message referring to the pruning of branches in the vineyard, as well as the verse concerning rain falling on the just and the unjust, God can work all things for good to them who know Him and are called to His purpose. God bless you, Julie, for your wise perspective.

Ida

julievanmeter wrote 288 days ago

Thank you for your comments. God is good, allowing us to strengthen on the vine. Even when we feel abandoned by Him, he has in mind the perfect harvest time for us. Have a great day!

I am being daily nourished with each chapter. Chapter 11 is one that I need to write on my heart, often feeling squeezed. I have been on the wine tours and have learned about the method of producing ice wine, never connecting it to our lives. Maybe we are branches that produce grapes for ice wine. It is a beautiful analogy, and so fitting. Thank you, Julie.

This is a truly beautiful book Julie. Though I am not a very religious person, I loved the simplicity of each devotion. It is exactly right for teaching children about God, as well as bringing comfort to those who need it. I believe more in the scientific creation of the world, but even I must wonder at some un-seen power during a thunderstorm, or wonder at the skill of an unknown hand in the colours of a sunset.
I have backed your book with stars and on w/l.
