A boy must find a way to survive when thrust into a battle between two forces bent on using him for their own ends.
Jarod’s life changes in the span of a week. Raiders invade his home village, his father tells him he possesses magick and grants him a true name, and then the wizards who claimed to be Sillick’s saviors kidnap him and convince the villages he’d helped the raiders. Jarod can’t deny his power, but magick is the last thing he wants, especially when that’s all those around him seem interested in. But at least Jarod isn’t alone. His father and new-found friend support him and demonstrate that magick is not the only power that matters. Now, the three must find a way to resist the wizards from the Atra Faction who have taken control of Sillick and stand against the Faction’s enemy—Mage Circle—that is just as determined to use them in its own way.
