Daily Dose of Sanity

David Paul Hofmeister

Experience what it’s like to be in a Mental Health facility today, from the view points of the patients, Nurses, and even the Doctors.

Peter Ward is freshly home from Afghanistan, with a section eight to boot. However, leaving the war behind is easier said than done. Struggling to come to terms with a horrific event that took place, he spends his days wallowing in self -pity, and popping painkillers. His girlfriend has left him, even scared of him at this point, due to his strange behavior. So it comes to pass, that he decides to make an attempt on his life. However he is unsuccessful, and lands himself inside a Psych Ward. While there he will meet people from all walks life, with all manners of problems. Some are tragic, others are inspiring. Showing everyone’s point of view from the patients, Nurses, to even the Doctors are represented here. With this unique vantage point, the reader will get the low down on what it means to really be a member of the system. All of the pros and cons included. This adds up to an all too familiar but untold story that millions of Americans are going through every day.

I thoroughly enjoyed the topic, characters and your style. I got very invested into the main character after the first chapter and devoured the other two, within a few minutes. You got the beginnings of a great novel here! I am very impressed and will proudly back this delightful read. Well done!!

I found the first chapter long but interesting. I liked the way you portray Pete and his character. I have rated this well.

Very interesting topic ..reminds me of the film Asylum ..minus the horror and with added weight on it.
Only because I've worked in similar settings I will be reading this.

I read part one thus far. The opening is fabulous. You immediately draw your readers into your story with a line everyone can relate to. And you continue with realistic punches till you told us about Pete. The man was on edge. Thanks to Dennis who saved him or did he just delayed his death. I will read part two to find out. I must say the coping strategies I use over the years when the going got stuff would help Pete, who allowed the break up of his relationship to affect him. I don't blame his girlfriend though. She must have scared seeing him strolling around in search of uninvited guess to kill.

I don't imagine this will be a best seller, but it's well worth reading.
