LOVE OVERBOARD

BEV DULSON

A story of love, friendship & cruise ships.

The love of Lucie's life comes back to find her, but has he missed the boat?

*****COVER BY THE FABULOUS SHEENA IGNATIA*****

Travel Agents, Lucie and Zoey have a ball onboard 'Oceania' sailing around the Caribbean on a working holiday. Lucie falls for Nick, a member of the entertainment team. After two weeks of total passion Lucie finds herself back home, without Nick...

Five years later Lucie has moved on and is in a new relationship, but she's never quite forgotten the man who made her heart race like no other. Nick decides he's had enough of life on the ocean wave and heads home, with Lucie, the girl who he thinks may just be the one that got away at the forefront of his mind.

Lucie thinks her life is pretty sorted, until Nick returns and she has to decide who really is the man for her... it's not all plain sailing.

THE FIRST PART OF THE STORY FLIPS IN TIME BETWEEN THE CRUISE SHIP AND NOW.

***I am hoping that when you read this you see it for what it is - something fun that doesn't take itself to seriously***

Okay come really really close to the screen because I don't want to say this above a whisper.

I, Mark Trost, love rom-coms. Oh hell yes I do. I'm a 47 year old heterosexual man who likes reading about adorable funny people with silly problems. I love it. You want to know why? Because my life (as is all middle-aged sandwich generation folks) is so goddamned stressfilled I don't need another thriller or fright. No. I want froth and fun. So I'll happily read something that breezes by and cools me down.

This is a darling book filled with adorable characters and a fun-filled plot. And you wrote it well.

It's a win/win.

Insist on having a say in casting. I don't want to see Sandra Bullock in another film for years.

thanks

First, I loved the cover art.

Your pitch is polished and it pulled me in.

Your writing is soothing,

I found myself entrench in the sentences and floating from paragraph to paragraph

You are a gifted writer my friend and your manuscript will do very well.

Bev,

don't be so hard on yourself, you write well and I saw little to know typos. But, with all that said, the manuscript looks good and flows refreshingly. A romance is a good area to be in here on authonomy because those are some of the books making it to the ED.

Bev. . . What can I say?
For starters I'm bloody well jealous of Lucie! It might have been raining outside all evening but I've been in the Carribbean! I absolutely loved it - just wish it didn't stop there as I'm dying to find out if that smile at the end lead to anything. . . Im on team Nick so I hope it did! God, Im really not a bad person but they'd be so perfect together! You never forget your first love ;-)
You've done a terrific job Bev - this should definately be on the shelves of bookshops all over the place. Your characterizarions, dialogue and overall flow of the story is A1 all the way!
Keeping this on my shelf forever!

Love & hugs,
Grace xx

Dear Bev Dulson,

Oh, the romance of ships, even the craziest, noisiest, glitziest cruise ship. Bev, I'm onboard, make that Love Overboard, Passenger Numero Uno for this one. Cool ocean breezes and that promised smile you assure your readers. Yes, yes, yes for FUN. Mark R. Trost is correct. Girls just want to have FUN. Sailing with you even if it's on the life raft. Back this summer treat like a frosted drink with a paper umbrella.

Love Overboard reminded me instantly of my book, Titanic: Rose Dawson's Story. Love at sea is such a compelling genre as it makes you wish you were there unless the ship sinks before it reaches its destination.

Bev -

You've got the start (actually, you're way past starting - more like needing a little polish) of a terrific, funny and light spirited read.

I'm another of those full-blooded hetero guys who just happens to be a sucker for a good romantic comedy, and I freakin' adored this.

Give this the attention it needs at this stage and I just know you'll end up on the NYT list.

Happy to back Love Overboard.

Best of luck here, and I would love it if you'd let me know what you think of my book.

Thanks.

I took my first cruise last summer and really enjoyed it so this title popped out at me. I like the way this isn't a simple shipboard romance (Loveboat reincarnated) as the story goes on way past the time we leave the ship. Lucie and Nick are both good characters. It's a fun read. Burgio (Grain of Salt).

Hi Bev -- great first chapter. It all reads very well -- your dialogues are excellent. The mobile phone joke was funny -- I liked her response and then Nick's reply, too.
Nitpick -- '...come 'ead, lets go' --- what does 'ead mean?
tarts needs an apostrophe -- tart's
Good luck with this. As a tour operator, I'm relieved I don't do cruises!

I read your first chapter. your characters Lucy, Zoey and Nick. This is a wonderful story, although i was lost to keep track of the characters for who did what, but for that you can always blame me, because no one else had such a complaint, so it isme not you. apart from that it reminds you of all the good times you had. and the good thing that it was all in a ship, how romantic, i should say. Iback your book with pleasure.

Bev:

I found Love Overboard to be both witty and entertaining. I think you nailed what poor travel agents go through to perfection. Loved the lady that didn't want to visit Greece because there were too many Greeks. Go figure! It's so close to what my friend in the travel industry goes though, I had a good laugh.

Terrific. Lucie comes across as humorous, zesty and friendly, as does Nick. Nice couple. Nice, well-drawn characters. You give us realistic conversations that engage the reader and propel your story forward. You describe your settings superbly. I love the humor. Your liberal use of slang gives the prose a light, fun, youthful feel. You've written the growning rapport between Lucie and Nick in a believable way. Your first kiss scene is well-done. Great storyline. Pitch perfect pacing. This is a fun, frothy romance with twists. Backed.

This is absolutely great Bev. A fantastic holiday read as well, I could just imagine sitting by the pool and reading this. Your characterisation is excellent, I felt like I knew Lucie and Zoey really well and their instant friendship was lovely and realistic. The set-up is really great fun. I was quite surprised that the first chapter moves forward five years but it's great and adds another layer of relationships and possibilities for the story. Good comedy moments as well, especially the moaning passenger. Love it! Backed with pleasure and good luck with it.

This is...so much fun to read! The words just glide effortlessly through the reader's eyes and into their mind (okay...awkward imagery).

Haha, virgins and Jimmy Choo. The banter is lovable. The pace moves along swimmingly (pun intended?). And the shift between past and present is well done (although, I must say, I'm rather partial to that format myself).

I think this is saleable as it is. It's just a matter of finding the right agent. And you'd think Harlequinn would love this stuff, right? Now if only I didn't have class right now...

Hi Bev, It's wonderful to mix up genres in my reading. When I came to yours I was instantly captivated by your breezy and smooth prose. The conversations between Lucie and Zoey are as natural as any I'd hear between two girlfriends out shopping. While your editing, watch out for tags like, 'she thought to herself.' That is pretty much redundant. Other than that, this story would be enjoyed by many. ;0) Shelved. JupiterGirl. (Twins of the Astral Plane)

Bev, I used to work in travel ;) This is well written and the friendship between Lucie and Zoey is great. Your sense of humour makes your writing flow and I read 3 chapters before taking a breath. What is unusual is that I rarely enjoy Chick Lit, but perhaps it was the memories of my travel life or just your writing, friendly style that helped me enjoy and back this.

Hi Bev. Love Overboard. (I am commenting having read 3 ex 13 chapters). As you know, I came to this one on the back of our reading of both of each other's books. Betrayal was the one I chose to read first...and is right up my street. To be honest, this one is really one for the girls rather than me! It's just too full-on undiluted 'Chick Lit' for a male reader methinks. However, that does not mean I cannot recognise consummate skill at work in the crafting of a book within a particular genre...and this is everything that Chick Lit needs to be. If a publisher wants a new Chick Lit title, then Bev's Love Overboard is definitely definitely definitely one to consider. It has humour, exotic settings and.....er.....shoes! I think the testimony of many of the female readers of authonomy (see below) speaks volumes. Good luck with this one, Bev....but it is definitely Betrayal I shall be buying for myself when both of your books are published! (And they will be!) ATB Simon (Little Bastard/Love Gudrun Ensslin)
