Highways of The Mind

BDC

Nothing is impossible just harness your mind's power and use my simple techniques. You’ll find them all right here in this book.

The power that we all have hidden deep in side our unconscious mind if guided and directed can lead us to greatness way beyond our wildest imagination. All of the great and famous people since the beginning of time have consciously or unconsciously possessed this power. With Gods Divine Intelligence and the ability to use it these great people could instantly see the lines of convergence towards the end result. The greatest authors, philosophers, artists and musicians used their imagination to unleash this power and take them to places beyond the realm of human endeavor. You too can use this power to take you to the places that in the past you have only visited in your dreams.

What I'm teaching you I learned from the best mind enhance people and programs in the business of rehabilitation.. How can you fail with this kind of power, it is all right at your finger tips. If you are ready to change your way of thinking and start living a more productive life and you want to do it my way, which I believe is the easiest way. Then it's time you get serious. Pick up my book and let’s get started.

Hello Andrew let me quote my first paragraph;
“I want you to spend a substantial amount of time and effort establishing your goals. I'm sure that you will find as I have found that all of the rich and famous and those truly successful have set goals to get them where they are today. Setting goals is first and utmost the most important part of your journey to success and financial freedom.” My intent here is by no means that establishing goals will make you rich and famous. I’m just taking an observation to make a point. Goals are no more then an individuals desires put in writing and a positive effort or plan to make them happen. I’m looking at this paragraph from the outside looking in to see how I would interpret it as the reader. You’ve made a point for me to consider. I’ll have to give it some thought. Thanks for calling it to my attention.
It is comments like yours that I am looking for, I love to write but I don’t always get everything right. I can review my work over and over and still miss the words and thoughts that cause confusion. Thanks for your opinion and your compliments. BDC
I’ve started reading your book Sanctuary's Loss it looks like it’s going to be a good read so I put it on my bookshelf and my watch list. I haven’t read far enough to give you an honest critique but when I start a book I finish it so you expect my comment soon.

Highways of the Mind

Hi BDC, What a refreshing book, a book written in a warm and kind-hearted way to offer help. You have distilled your experience into a readable and supportive account of how to manage your mind more efficiently. What a lovely and human thing to do. You do this well, with clarity and verve. Well done, the only bit that irked me slightly was the statement in the first paragraph of Goals about "rich and famous" - as if this is a desirable goal. Financial security, absolutely, but rich and famous, individualistic desire to achieve fame and richness are probably part of the problem across the planet, achievement at the expense of others. However, the rest of your book is so warm-hearted that I am sure you are not saying that fame and richness are desirable goals, being extremely good at what you do is probably a better goal in terms of happiness, once of course you have discovered what you do and have the opportunity to do it. Best wishes - Andrew W.

I just finished “Gathering in the Rain” I enjoyed meeting all of your characters and it’s obvious you have a vivid imagination. Traveling through your book has been a once in a lifetime experience. Although your book must be over 600 pages I enjoyed the ride all the way. What you have put between covers and upfront on stage is well worth the admission whatever the cost. I admire your style and I’m a little jealous of your creative ability. I’m looking forward to reading your “House of Valla” just as soon as I finish my watch list and my bookshelf. Great writing, BDC

Hi BDC

I always find myself going cross-eyed when trying to read self-help books. My opinion is, perhaps incorrectly, that one doesn't need a book to tell one how to feel and act. When someone advises me what to do, I get irritated. Don't they say advice is the worst kind of criticism? Always believed that, and thus keep my 'advice' to others to a minimum.

Now to Highways of the Mind. Despite aforesaid drawbacks, I do have an open mind and was prepared to read this from that point of view. And here I am, surprised. Firstly, you don't force the issue- choice remains with the reader. Secondly, you write so smoothly it never feels like a lecture.

I think you believe what you write about, and that comes across.

Thirdly, you make absolute sense. And that is the best of all. About goals, for instance: most of us say we have them...but do we ever really write them down and then believe in ourselves?

Every writer here on this site should read your book- it is relevant!!!!!

Decidedly shelved.

Going For It
Dear Katie Carr thank you for the most encouraging comment I’ve yet to receive. I put my work here on authonomy to edit and make more book worthy, I’m not too concerned about getting it published here although it would be an added bonus for my efforts, I’ve already paid Outskirts Press and they’ve accepted my submission. I’ve targeted my book to the average reader and tried not to use ten letter words to avoid confusion. It is hard to get people to read self help books so I’ve tried to make it as interesting as possible. I figure if I can get my readers in through the front door then it’s up to me to hold on to their attention.
That said; it’s time for me to comment on your creative ability. I’ve been reading “Going For It” ever since I got your comment and I’m up to about 40,000 words. Wow, that’s quite a feat but believe me it has been well worth it. Getting to know your characters is as interesting as climbing the highest mountain. Watching Rachel, Fiona and Jo stumble through the roadblocks of live gives one a new outlook on traveling life’s highway’. I’m glad I decided to go for it your excellent writing makes me want to read more of your magic between covers. If this is not a best seller then I don’t know what is. Good luck and Gods Speed, BDC

Highways of the Mind
I picked this off the booklist even though it isn't the sort of book I normally review on here; however, I've read so many self-help and inspirational=type books over the past decade or so that I feel I'm in familiar territory and can comment from the viewpoint of someone who's tried a lot of pathways. I'm also a trained Life Coach although I don't operate a business as such.
I'm shelving your book because it's well-written (despite your introductory warnings I find it one of the best I've come across on Authonomy for clarity of expression, ease of reading, and standard of presentation); also because I can relate to your story. My brother, who now lives in the States, battled the same demons with all the awful consequences, and has won through just as you did. I know what he went through and I salute you - and those who helped you to save yourself.
My own book, although it's a novel, is the outcome of a fairly cathartic process of unloading a lot of tough experiences I've dealt with over the past twenty years, and I'm a great supporter of anyone who can turn bad into good in this way - even more so if it helps other people.
So to your book. I've read the first chapter and will come back to read more simply because I want to; I don't think it will alter my opinion of your work. Your style is perfect for this genre; you speak with authority which gives the troubled reader confidence. You also take the attitude straight away that you are not here to mess around with pretty phrases or meaningless platitudes - there's a vigorous, no-nonsense approach which gives me a lift straight away and makes me want to read on and learn.
The only point I would nitpick about is that the body of writing can look quite heavy - misleadingly so, because it certainly isn't heavy reading. I think just breaking it up somehow in the final presentation would make a big difference to this aspect. Step-by-step progress is what most readers want, I think, so that goes down well as does the way you keep offering encouragement to 'stay with it'. The definitions you give are succinct and useful - not only in understanding the text but in concentrating the reader's mind on exactly what this is all about. Focus is one of the most important elements in this genre, and one which is often sadly lacking in some of the sprawling, self-important tomes I've invested in!
I will probably come back and comment more when I'm further through the book - please bear with me on that. Meanwhile, I wish you success with this, and hope it reaches the people it needs to reach.
Katie

I don’t know who to thank Margaret or Noreen I hope you both took the opportunity to look at my written word. I’m a totally recovered alcoholic and the techniques I teach in Highways of the Mind are the same ones that I used to cure myself. I’ve written this book to help people from all walks of life and all circumstances of life. My mission is to show you the way to make your life better. You say you are skeptical of books like mine you needn’t be I’ve tried to make reading them a pleasurable experience. That said, let me comment on your book; first off I don’t make it a habit reading books like yours so I guess that puts us both in the same boat. I find your style unique and your thoughts and ideas are very interesting so I put your book on my watch list until I have room on my bookshelve. I love reading and when I start something I finish it so I promise to finish your book and give you my honest opinion. BDC

I am also sceptical about self-help books. However, I like this, and feel you put your philosophy across well. Anything which enhances and encourages positive thinking has got to be commended. Will back this.

Thank you Dr. Roe, Imagination helps provide meaning to experience and understanding to knowledge it covers all consepts, art, language, writing and etcetera. Your right the imagination has no limits. Thanks for taking time to read my book my definitions are basic but they are only as you imagine to stimulate your imagination.

very interesting! I am not sure I agree with your definition of imagination - surely it includes the ability to think creatively in a more general sense - concepts, language and imagery?

This is the best chapter so far. I like it. I am gald I shelved it. Goals are important; short and long. I've been told by many therapist, pattimari being one, that if we don't set goals we are walking around lost. I believe it. Been there, done that. Even though it is already on my bookshelve, I want to come back and read more.

Cindy, You and Patti have made my day with your comments. Writing is my greatest passion reading is my favorite hobby. Most of the things I write are meant to bring new light where darkness has prevailed. I value good friends more than anything else, without friends to share your successes then success doesn’t matter. I’d like you to join my family of friends I have several hundred on webook and facebook and other sites and I’m just getting started here. Thanks Again, BDC
P.S. I’m looking forward to your first novel...

Hi, came back to read more of your great book. I just finished ch 7 and find it absolutely a good chapter. I've meditated most of my life and yes indeed it balances and keeps one in good mind shape. Self Sugggestion is something I have my clients do when they are so low on self-esteem from an abusive relationship or other things that caused them to lose sight of themselves. It works.

Your words here, knowing as a therapist, ring true.

Hi, great read. Pattimari sent me over here to read your book and if I liked it to back it. I am.

pattimari wrote 1085 days ago

BDC, I really like this chapter on 'Goals'. I think short time goals and long time goals are very important to set in order to open the door to establishing them and following through on them. I always have my clients write their short time goals and long time goals in order to view them each day and it serves as a reminder which path they are walking down..
I also have them keep a journal and write in it everyday. This helps the energies to be placed in a good direction.
I will be back to read ch 3 and 4 tomorrow. Meanwhile, take care and come and visit me sometime.

BDC, someone who offers ten years experience in exchange for the reading of a book deserves to be shelved on that basis alone. But your writing is so easy and straightforward and with a such a soothing tone that it's a joy to read. I haven't finished what you've written, so, though I'm shelving it, I'll keep it on the WL and come back to it.
Thankyou.

Hello BDC,

You have written a very helpful book that I take seriously. You have a pondering mind and did good job putting it to use here, bringing to the attention of readers helpful guidelines on resolving everyday or common place issues plaguing our everyday lives. With a little polish, your brilliant work will shine even brighter.

All the best.

DBC,
You are a bit hard on yourself. I have read this first chapter, and noticed a couple of spelling (typos) mistakes, but nothing that can’t be fixed easily. Your writing is clear and precise, and easily understandable. While I can’t say I am enthralled, I am most certainly interested, and I am going to shelf this book, so that I can return to it and glean more of your wisdom. But before I become engrossed I notice thirteen chapters; is this the entire book, or am I going to be left with only partial enlightenment? A cup half full so to speak?

This chapter needs a lot of work. I found several misspelled and misused words. Incomplete thoughts and real bad grammar. I don't know where my mind was when I put it together. I intend to completely revise it. The intent is good but the content is bad.

pattimari wrote 1088 days ago

BDC, your writing shows talent and not only that but this book will help others. I think this is an outstanding book and I will immediately back it.
You've always impressed me with your wonderfully creative writings and they way you reach out to others to offer them ways to live a better life.
I plan to read all of this book because I think it is going to be a winner.
