It is, isn't it, Richie. I don't think HC will ever come down out of that Ivory Tower.

When they roll-out the new idea, they won't have to.

Interesting Diane, but not altogether surprising. I seem to recall some earlier post about an article on the POD plans of HC.

Still, as Alexander agrees, the site is useful for helpful 'peer review' and some fun, but HC seem not to be taking the project as seriously as the 'writers most likely to become published' would wish. (I am NOT one.)

POD may, or may not, represent the future. I suspect it will develop and become more attractive to the great unwashed public, taking a larger market share,so we shouldn't be too surprised that HC want a large slice of that action.

Dear Diane,

Thanks for flagging this up. I predict a mass exodus. I have left my comments on the blog.

Authonomy has moved from potentially innovative to concretely exploitative.

Ah, but MHM, the manner in which HC has moved there is what's insidious. POD is going to be big in the future, but only if there is still a measure of quality control.

It's an opinion eloquently put. It's one way of looking at it. I'm kinda scratching my head and wondering why so many people seem to be of the opinion that HC owes us anything.

Maybe it helps if you're in a genre they don't publish much.

I never expect anything, except what the writing community at Authonomy can do for me, and that has been an awful lot. I will stop participating here when I feel it's no longer beneficial to me. Never mind HC. I enjoy the site, so I'm thankful they've set it up. I'll take from it what I can use and ignore what I can't. That's all.

Dear Patty,

You are a very rational dear old thing, and I love you for that.

I don't think the "uproar" is because anyone believes HC owes them anything. Like I said before, I think it's the way this POD/self-publishing morphing has been (secretly) managed that's getting people's backs up.
