As announced in our blog post we will shortly be updating the talent spotter rankings based on a new, improved algorithm. This will be applied to all authonomists equally, without discrimination, based on all book backings made on the site to date.

Once again we will not be providing details of the new algorithm, to reduce the potential for gaming. However it may be useful to know that the new algorithm exhibits the following characteristics:

- When others back a book that you are already showcasing on your shelf, your talent-spotting rank is likely to rise.
- Being able to generate interest in new books or books that have been static in the charts by showcasing them, is more likely to result in your talent spotter rank rising, since it demonstrates an ability to overcome any inertia within the community.
- However to discourage bandwagon jumping, in the event that a book rises very rapidly, only the earlier supporters are likely to see any appreciable benefit to their ranking. They can legitimately claim to have spotted the successful book. Latecomers will see diminishing returns, since they are more likely to be followers.

We hope that without having resorted to imposing undue restrictions of what any authonomist can do (by locking out new users for example), these changes will encourage the type of behaviour that most people here would like to see in future.
