It has been a mammoth task for our judges due to an overwhelming number of entries, but we can now finally reveal the winner of the Letters to Juliet sonnet competition (and the proud new owner of a lovely, shiny Samsung netbook).

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition. We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again: the talent on the site is truly impressive, and there were many fantastic entries.

‘My Letter to Juliet’s Wall’
Melissa Dollahon Eyler

What ancient echoes whisper from these walls,
Where love profound, and without bounds remains?
This haunted yard of memory recalls
Hushed songs of love, and passion’s sweet refrains.
Awak’ning dawn creeps through the darkest skies,
As light of love trespasses through the heart,
In spite of vain objections that arise;
It floods the soul with passion from the start.

Send me endless love across the ages,
For my heart longs to soar across the sky!
Write passion over all my life’s pages,
And teach this earthbound spirit how to fly.

I wrote this note of silent hope to see
If you could send love’s miracle to me.
