Problems with indentation

All of my paragraphs are indented, but when I upload them, most of them aren't. I am so confused! I'm uploading a word document and I use the tab key... is it a formatting issue in the document? How do most people achieve indented paragraphs? Thanks for any help!

Don't use the tab key. Ideally you should format your whole document in Word using indents from the document/format menu or whatever. That's a must for ebooks but here one or two spaces should suffice. I'd suggest cutting and pasting into a rich text format using another application (I use TextEdit on a Mac but there's a Notepad or some such in Windows). You can upload a RTF file here. But get rid of the tabs. Nasty habit.

I've had the same problem so I've gone through and removed all the tabs then set the 'first line indent' on the Paragraph screen.

It looks fine on my laptop but I've just uploaded it and all the indents are gone again.

Would somebody be able to explain to me exactly what I have to do (in words of no more than two syllables) bearing in mind that I am both techologically challenged and blonde!

Thanks, oh sage ones

Only tab indents show up on Authonomy. If you use first line indent, it will disappear when you upload. So unfortunately if you want paragraph indents, you're going to have to add those tabs back in manually. Tongue out

Hmm, I had all the tabs in originally and they weren't showing up either. Someone further up said you can't use tabs - or is tab indent something different? That's why I took them out. See, told you I was technologically challenged!

In the Autho FAQ it says indented paragraphs don't work, only hard tabs. However, if you're using MS Word, when you indent a paragraph with the tab key, it automatically makes it a margin indent. To check if you have hard tabs, you need to turn on "Show all characters". To do that, click this button on your toolbar: ¶

If you have margin indents, they will be blank, but if you have hard tabs you'll see a right-pointing arrow.
