about me

THANKS A MILLION FOR ALL THE SUPPORT.

I am delighted "A Load of Rubbish" made the desk at the beginning of this year.

Now I have loaded up my second book "A Place Called Perfect" and I would like some feedback on it before I make my next step!

I am from Kilkenny, a little town (although we dispute its a city) in the south east of Ireland.

I have been writing on and off for years

I have only posted a sample of Perfect, the story is however complete.

I hope you like it.

A Place Called Perfect

Helena Duggan

Violet Brown is perfectly happy until her Dad, the worlds best optician is picked to investigate a worrying problem in a place called Perfect.

Violet Brown like most ten year olds is perfectly happy. Perfectly happy that is until her Dad, Eugene Brown, the worlds very best optician gets hand picked by Messer’s George and Edward Archer to investigate a worrying problem in their quiet little town. The place is called “Perfect” and it is save for one curious fact. After a short time in the town every sinner loses their sight and would remain blind were it not for the “Archer Brothers Spectacle Makers” and their gold-rimmed glasses. As expected Violet loses her sight but when she hears voices in her head, almost gets expelled from school, her father takes a sudden business trip without uttering a word and her hippy mother turns home maker, she begins to worry. A strange pair of spectacles stuffed in her mattress pulls her into an adventure she never expected. She meets Boy, a "No Mans Lander", has a run in with the Watchers, finds the Reimaginator and discovers "The Ghost Estate". Perfect is not so pristine but can Violet wake its people to this reality in time to save her family.

A Load of Rubbish - Seamus and....

Helena Duggan

Credit limits, the Triple R Treaty, Adam and his army. Seamus's dump dream is disintegrating and now he needs to stand and fight.

Seamus is an ordinary shoe whose love of adventure lands him in a whole heap of trouble! Thrown from a truck into a world of rubbish he never knew existed he must find his feet in this larger than life wasteland.

Lost, shy and regretting he ever walked out on his brother Charlie, he must come to terms with his uselessness and gradually learn the rules that govern dump life. Through friends and mentors he gains along the way he picks up snippets about his unfamiliar surroundings and begins to settle in this topsy-turvy world of rubbish.

It is just as he starts to enjoy dump life, and aspires to be ‘Recycled’ and made useful again that things begin to go askew. With the aid of KP, a beautiful and courageous newspaper, he unveils a dirty truth. The dump dream begins to disintegrate as he discovers a plot that not only affects his friends but the whole dump and the animal and human worlds beyond.

Seamus is an ordinary shoe but it is going to take an extraordinary courage to fight for his friends and stand up for the dump he now calls home.

Hi Jon, love this idea. Your opening is really good, I know the feeling of boredom that leads you to facebook, checking out pictures full of people you've never met before, its a funny world really the virtual one and I think it's a world that a lot of people are getting lost in these day, almost li... view book

Hi Andrew, I like the premise and the fact that it is a true story makes this all the more compelling. An insiders look at China always fascinates me as it is such a secretive place and the teaching angle is good, I have often thought about doing it, good way to travel but I never got round to organ... view book

Hi Dj, I am hear to return the read and support you gave me during my plight for the desk. I like the intrigue and set up in this, it really had me hooked and I wanted to read on. Hi Jessica, good beginning, I think this is good YA, has all the elements needed. A good central character, a striking mysterious boy, who is/isn't her boyfriend and he seems to have a secret her doesnt want to let her in on. I like Ryan too, his character is softer than Sam's although we don't know... view book

Hi Dana, this is a nicely beginning, I like the call backs to Keats all the time, it ties Natalies meanders together and sets her character a little for the reader. There is nice intrigue in the beginning, you mention that she is responsible for Lucas's condition but don't mention how, we know she i... view book
