about me

I have spent much of my life staring out of the window, dreaming about being outdoors, having adventures and thinking up stories. Despite this I managed to graduate in the late nineties with a degree in environmental science.

My debut novel, Flux, was published in 2011.

A love of the outdoors, which permeates my writing, has never left and I can often be found walking in the hills, camping or canoeing along the rivers of Britain

Iain is looking forward to the weekend when a number nineteen bus shatters his body, but broken bones are the least of his worries.

In this disturbing yet darkly funny novel, Iain’s near death experience is not a vision of exquisite godliness with light at the end of a tunnel. Instead he experiences a place of darkness and heat, inhabited by foul creatures, the sounds of suffering and a beast.

During a long recovery Iain becomes plagued by nightmares and premonitions, shadowy apparitions, a magpie, and a vile old man. They all have a message, that something wants Iain and it won't give up easily.

Iain’s friends do their best to cheer him up in the best ways they know how, until the unexpected events of one sunny afternoon mean that he is on his own, caught up in the age old battle of good versus evil.

CWB - Nymphs heart, chapter 5 I like the sense of atmosphere this chapter invokes. The descriptions are good too. eg - 'a tongue of nutrient rich water'. I haven't really got a lot of criticism or anything constructive to say really so that would be a thumbs up from me. There was one typo (I thi... view book

CWB – Forbidden people chapter 5 Reading this I feel it could do with a fair bit of editing but should scrub OK in the final draft. Some sentences need re-arranging to read a little less formally and there are maybe a few extra words here and there. Eg. – ‘he believes this one to have under ten y... view book

I've only read chapter one so far, the rest requires my full attention and I'm tired. Without wanting to lay it on thick, I really like it. A lot. I want to read a couple more chapters before shelving it and singing its praises. The only thing I can really offer is that I'd try to write the dialo... view book

I'm liking this story. It's a good concept and entertainingly written. However, I hate footnotes and casting my eye back and forth detracts from the reading, so I stopped looking at them. Why not try and work these into the text, some of them seemed un-needed. That is only my personal opinion tho... view book

CWB – Canterbury Warriors, chapter six I make no secret that I like this book (so far) and it’s been on my shelf a while now. I couldn’t find a massive amount wrong with this chapter but two things to possibly look at are: Silly get – maybe git, I know it’s a local thing but git is a word in its ... view book
