about me

My first job titles were Chicken Catcher and Corn Detasseler. I lived a somewhat normal small town life in Nebraska until I dropped out of dental school to become a stand-up comedian and founding member of The Groundlings improvisational comedy troupe in Los Angeles.

As a voice actor I've been heard in hundreds of commercials, a few TV shows, and a movie. I also wrote some TV shows for Hanna Barbera Studios. And it is my dubious claim to fame that I set a record for the most winning acts on The Gong Show (three). But then, I also hold the record for the most gonged acts (three). I'm living proof that in life, you win some and you lose some.

After taking a long break from show-biz pursuits to raise a family and make a living in sales, I have picked up the pen again, writing my first novel: The Legend of Butterfield Farm

The Legend of Butterfield Farm....

D.D. Larsen

What happens when climbing a tree takes you to a strange new world from which you may never return? The Legend of Butterfield Farm begins.

A mysterious, giant oak tree turns up on Butterfield Farm. Seven-year-old Henna discovers its magical nature and its odd occupants upon moving there. She, her ten-year-old sister, Holly, and their eight-year-old cousin, Gordon, are carried away in this unusual tree to a far away, wondrous world. Once there, they must survive a terrifying journey filled with peculiar creatures and fiendish enemies for a chance at returning home.

Your opening is very strong. I was invested in Willow and her plight in the beginning. Very interesting subject matter, too, involving the two dimensions. Loved the willow tree. I was locked in to the story and interested in what would happen next, until she came back to reality and then back to ... view book

Overall, the story is very good. I've read 8 chapterss and giving 6 stars. Only suggestion is, I would have liked to have seen more commas in the correct places for easier understanding of the flow of the sentences. I'm putting it on my bookshelf. view book

Hi, Robert. I just finished your first chapter and was rewarded with several chuckles. I really like Charlie and I'm rooting for him. I look forward to his further adventures and how he handles, and reacts to, his adversities ahead. He is delightfully flawed, which I love in a comic hero. Goo... view book

Hello, D.S.. I love how you've introduced Jessup and his "problem" with deciding between living with Mom or Dad. I really felt for the character and his situation. Good job hooking the reader into caring about your hero. Also liked that Jessup is a bit flawed, which makes him very believable. ... view book
