about me

Married, with one wife, three boys and a dog. This may keep me from doing as much reading and writing as I would like, but provides a valuable connection with the real world, to which I would otherwise be complete stranger! (The worlds inside my head are so much easier to live in...).

And they also provide some valuable criticism and encouragement.

Except for the dog, who has no interest in literature unless it's edible.

My thanks to all who have read, backed and commented on my books. I've now taken them off the site. I decided a long time ago that I didn't have the time or the inclination for all the hard work needed to reach the Ed Desk. I've stayed on mostly for the comments, which have been very useful. I've got a fair bit of editing and re-writing to do take take full advantage of them all!

I've now self-published my crime novel, 'Can of Worms', which can be found at lulu.com (paperback or PDF download) or at Amazon (Kindle e-book).

I'll stay on the site for a while, as there's still some reading I want to do here. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT BE RESPONDING TO READ REQUESTS! Sorry about that, but it can take up a lot of time, and I'm busy doing other things.

favourite books

Lord of the Rings.
Wild Swans (Jung Chang) (And her biography of Mao).
Persian Fire (Tom Holland)

Actually, is it OK if I just list some favourite authors?
Terry Pratchet, Steven Donaldson, C.J. Cherryh, Richard North Patterson, Guy Gavriel Kay. Dick Francis... etc, etc.

The underlying concept is intriguing, and you've obviously thought through some of the social consequences of this technology. Lot of interesting ideas coming together here, and the writing is smooth and well paced. Certainly one for my shelf. view book

Intriguing idea and a clever opening, with a lot of potential for plot development. However, I felt that the next few chapters moved rather too slowly to make best use of this. Personally, I 'd like to seem some earlier hints at a connection with the opening. I also think that your pitch needs ... view book

Jane - excellent writing (not that I'd expect less)! The plot is very absorbing - mysterious, darkly atmospheric, perfectly paced and well developed. The characters are rich and well drawn, and I was so drawn that I read through all 6 chapters posted without a pause. And I was disappointed when... view book
