The world is a dark and desperate place, ruled over by the heartless Rassym who have banished their counterparts, the Tchaiut, to the skies in slumber. The Rassym rule over their people with an iron fist and force those with magic into slavery. The salvation of the world and the call of the Tchaiut back to their rightful place depends on the fate of Beinonna, the Hatiavar, a magical being born in winged form. The people have undergone centuries of preparation in anticipation of her birth; every possibility entertained. However, none could have foreseen the unlikely love story between Beinonna and Nestamar, a former Rassym who seeks ulitmate control of the world. The union will have tragic consequences; not just for them, but for the rest of the world.
