about me

I love to write though I have no formal education in it. Growing up in a small manufacturing town in central Massachusetts never exposed me to the opportunity or desire to go to college. There were no colleges local and no one I knew went to college.

It was a town where one is born, graduates from school, gets a job in a factory, raises a family, and at the end gets a stone at the town cemetery.

I escaped from that world and moved to Florida almost immediately meeting my future wife. I got married, supported and helped raise two children to responsible adulthood and have now been married for 31 years.

Writing has been my friend all along the journey. Unfortunately I never valued that friendship. Poems, stories, and the beginning of books have all been discarded along the way and I have no copies, but only vague memories of my works. 'After all who would want to read these', I'd think to myself as I tossed them into the trash year by year.

Two years ago a friend invited me to a writing group. I had nothing to do and no good excuse not to go so I agreed. It changed my life. I discovered something during that group—people actually said that they enjoyed what I had written!

So I set out to write a manuscript never intending it to be anything more than giving me the ability to say "hey, I wrote a manuscript." To my surprise it came out quite well and I encourage you to read a chapter or two and get your comments on it.

The book is written in third-person omniscient. If you do not like multiple points of view with some even within the same chapter you will probably not enjoy this book. Because of this please feel no need to read it, even as a return-read.

In Search of a Memory

Roy Belletete

Susan thinks she's losing her mind. Her painting obsession has become the ruler of her world. An unlikely friend may help her find the way.

It started innocently, almost like a game. But now she can't stop herself and things are becoming worse. Susan paints all the time and it's gone beyond an obsession to now where she paints in her sleep. The strange repeated paintings are a mystery to her. She doesn't know what they mean or why she paints them.
A most unlikely friend may help her find the way. Life works the two into a team to perhaps discover the meaning of the paintings and to reestablish that which has been torn from her life.
As an adult memories of her as a little girl and her mom walking out of her and her dad's life haunt her. The words “I've had it! I'm leaving!”are strongly in her thoughts. Her Mom never having said good-bye unconsciously guide her. Is there some connection? She doesn't know.

I have tried several times to update chapter one but continue to get error messages. Other chapters update without problem.

Hi Melissa, I've read the first part but not all. The writing is clear and your scenes are vivid. Your dialogue comes off quite believable. You have a talent for writing and after I found the hook at the end of your second chapter I was quite interested and wanted to know more. Best of luck... view book

I see you've changed a couple things in the first chapter of your book. For me it's made the story much more enjoyable from the very start so I've given you five stars. I can tell you really care about this story. I've read several chapters more and they really are quite good. Sometimes just rea... view book

I enjoyed your first chapter. "It wasn't a rock that done it Mom, it was a big white van," set a chill in my backbone. I can empathize with Alice and feel sorry for her with all the lousy things coming her way. She seems to deal with them while at the same time set apart from them, as if she was ... view book

You've done a good job of bringing me to place and time I have never encountered. Your descriptions and dialogue bring me to another century, and another country. Very good indeed. The best of luck to you. Roy view book

I'm not qualified to comment on the technical aspects of writing. I can't tell you if the commas are in the right place, or missing. I can't tell you of character development or plot design. I can only tell you what you made me feel. You made me feel sad with the diagnoses, happy with the dog, c... view book
