Writing as Anna Slade and Cate Charleston

I am a retired teacher and businesswoman with a lively mind. I am interested in the arts and history. I enjoy a wide range of music and love the theatre and books. I belong to a play reading group which I enjoy and a book group at my local library. I am studying Shakespeare with the Open University for the sheer pleasure of it.
I am a widow, have 2 grown up sons, sadly not local. I have both my parents though they are elderly and frail and I spend time helping them.
I love beautiful buildings, gardens and heart stopping scenery; the mountains and the sea. I have travelled to India, Australia, New Zealand and several European countries. Venice and Paris are particular favourites. I would like to see Prague. I have also visited many Caribbean islands and love the climate and the history, the flora and the fauna and I like to sail. St Vincent and the Grenadines inspired me to write one of my stories.
I enjoy touring the UK in particular Scotland and Cornwall where I have friends and family. The Lake District is my spiritual home and a day or a week walking on the footpaths and hills around the lakes and tarns is my greatest pleasure and solace. A near second is almost anywhere near the rural coast of our lovely country.
I have recently become intrigued by Japanese Taiko drumming and have been to a weekend workshop. I am arranging a follow up.
I love to cook and eat and drink fine wines and real ale!

Hi Dan - It's easy to see why your book is doing so well - congratulations. Terrific pace and sense of urgency - always a mark of a writer confident with his material. You do a great job of switching locations to lower or raise the temperature (literally and metaphorically) and know exactly when to ... view book

You've come up with a terrific first-person voice here, one that I trust completely because it's everyman: sad, world-weary and funny. So when you start telling me that Einstein is sitting in that chair I absolutely believe you. I really admire the clever way you've built up to this - first with the... view book

My only complaint about this is that there isn't enough of it. I'm desperate to read more. If there's anyone who doesn't need lessons in how to write (glanced at a few of the comments) it's you. You should be giving them. You brilliantly interweave the great comedy with a really sinister thread. Not... view book

Hi Martyn - If you're this funny in person then you're tragically wasted in China. Or can you do it in Mandarin? Haven't laughed this much since I read Martin Amis's Money - and that's some praise. Indeed, so much did it amuse me that I think it should carry some sort of health warning. Started Ch 3... view book
