about me

Rossa Forbes is my pseudonym. I'm a contributor to the award winning anthology Goddess Shift: Women Leading for a Change.

I got "interested" in schizophrenia when my son, Chris, was diagnosed at the age of 19. I firmly believe that the mother is the rarely consulted individual who knows her child best when it comes to schizophrenia. We rarely hear from her. Unfortunately, when we do, mothers' memoirs of schizophrenia adhere to the biochemical view of the so-called diseased brain. My memoir rejects the biochemical view of schizophrenia as an illness best treated by medication.

My memoir is not just a rejection of the diseased brain thinking that has dominated psychiatry since the introduction of chlorpromazine in the 1950s. Chris and I take advantage of some highly unusual non-medical treatments that have energy vibration as a common denominator. We go where few are thinking when it comes to schizophrenia. There is no therapy that has a blinking neon sign "for schizophrenia." To find the right people I had to scour the Internet and knock on doors. I believe that this memoir announces where schizophrenia treatment is headed in the 21st century.

My intention is to be humorous at times, to be thought provoking and educational and to resist the status quo.

The manuscript has been through several professional edits, but is still a work in progress. I have not posted all the chapters that I have written.

Rather than feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of chapters, I suggest, when approaching my book, that you choose the chapters from the Contents that most pique your interest.

Holistic Recovery from Schizop....

Rossa Forbes

A mother's quantum quest for healing, asking big questions and getting surprising anwers.

Chris's journey becomes his mother's journey when she starts to investigate why he is not getting better, and why, after two years in a day program he is still an enigma to the doctors. The journey takes some unusual detours into modalities of healing and thought that are not part of what is considered the proper medical treatment for schizophrenia today. To help heal her son, she first must learn that his condition is not a pathological disease. Part coming-of-age story, part do-it-yourself manual, Holistic Recovery from Schizophrenia shows where mental health treatment is headed at the dawn of the 21st century.
