Born in the West Riding of Yorkshire, a graduate of London University, married with two grown-up children and two grandchildren. Worked as a teacher/FE lecturer in English Literature and Language in the Manchester area and been for several years a local Lib Dem councillor, school governor and so on and so forth. Enjoying the chance in retirement to “do” and not just teach creative writing. A committed Christian - after decades of disbelief - and enthralled at the prospect of a life after death more astounding than anything in fantasy fiction. AFTER is a story of a family on earth seen both from their own points of view and from the profoundly changed perspective of their deceased father.

I think this is a very readable story - with an engaging and sympathetic protagonist. The names are great, and you make us curious about this world, eager to read more, and to follow Hex's quest. His POV is well thought through - eg. when he is struck by the Head's diminishment next to Welbeck. ... view book
I spotted one or two slips in this - Ch 3 should start with the station platform "teeming" not "teaming", and somewhere you mention "busses" (Elizabethan word for kisses) but mean "buses". I noticed later you used American spelling, skeptical for sceptical - I guess living in Canada makes it trick... view book
All I can say is you deserve to be where you are. This is winning stuff. I loved the opening sentence and then the vividness of the description with the shed's smells evoked brilliantly. Then the story gets going and has everything - sad background, fast pace, a sympathetic character, huge advent... view book
A really fun read, here. Very direct, pared down, but with the extraordinary related with a dead-pan seriousness that is both hilarious and absorbing. You hook the reader very competently - and then keep up the pace. Well done. Going on my shelf. Good luck with it. BV view book
