about me

I'm a complex character. I used to be a lot of things, but there are only two things that I can honestly say I enjoyed; one of which I still enjoy. 1.) I used to be a private investigator, and 2.) I've always been and still am a writer.

There are two quotes that top the list of my favorites; both by Anais Nin - both having significance in my endeavor to write.

"If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don't write, because our culture has no use for it." ~ Anais Nin

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." ~ Anais Nin

Sticks and Bones

Donna R. Wood

It’s true, sticks and stones can break bones; but words…words can break the whole person. The evil has been created; can Marcia Grant stop it?

Detective Marcia Grant is drawn into a world that wasn’t covered in the behavioral science or criminal justice text books.

When Leah Jackson is reported missing and turns up dead on the abandoned farmstead of Clyde Jordaine, the most hated man in West Fargo, Detective Marcia Grant and the whole city of West Fargo are drawn into a world where nothing makes sense. Through the investigation, Detective Grant is drawn back into the dramas of high school-- the categories, abuses and social ladders to be climbed and clung to at all costs. Nothing had really changed since her own high school days in the 80s, except the technology boom of the internet, cell phones, and internet social networking sites.

The case is botched from the beginning. To make matters worse, Officer Jonathon Drake inadvertently lets Marcia know how he truly feels about her and quits his job in the field, leaving her with a rookie cop, and Arnie, a seasoned officer biding his time to retirement, to solve the case.

Sticks and Bones is a psychological crime thriller that is bound to change the way people think about the underlying evil that has a very real presence in American society.

Jesus, man why isn't this thing published? I chose Cicada over your other book because the pitch appealed to me more-so than Seep. I've read a lot of manuscripts on this site and one as good as this is rare. I can't say one thing to improve what you have already written. Best of luck to you. view book

The story and plot is good. It is a little "Harry Potterish" in my humble opinion. There's a lot of 'he said', 'she said' with no real emotion attached to the dialogue. It seems to get better as the 1st chapter moves along. About that first chapter: I think the chapter is really two chapte... view book

Beegirl, this is a good read. I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said, but I think this is a great book for children - full of adventure. If you haven't thought about it, I would suggest considering some illustrations at the beginning of chapters - pencil drawings - like they us... view book

Alisa, I don't often read every chapter of books on Authonomy, but yours immediately grabbed my interest as I work with immigrant families - many from Somalia and other Muslim countries. I've read what you presented from beginning to end. Bravo. Well done. My remarks on content may be a bit bias... view book

I've read the first 2 and half chapters. Couple of things. The writing reads more like technical writing than creative writing. There's too much: I did this, then I did that, and then I did this. In the beginning, Dominic does not sound like a believable five year old boy. I think the voice wou... view book
