about me

I'm Kayla, and the Earth has circled the sun 18 times since I was born. As many of you other hopefuls out there, I'm an aspiring author, who (believe it or not) is going to study English Literature in college. Few random facts about me: I love Jesus, I hate onions, I love reading (especially historical fiction), math is the enemy, weasley is our king, and i'm fond of vintage things.

Even though I'm relatively young compared to most other members of this site, I am not new to the writing process. I started writing when I was eleven as sort of a transitionatory stage between playing with dolls and being a big girl. I realized that I didn't need the dolls to tell a story anymore.

It greatly bothers me when my inbox is plagued (and I do mean PLAGUED) with reading and backing request. I function on the old adage that if I read it and I love it, I'll back it or pick it or whatever you guys call it here. I do things the old fashioned way...before these websites, authors didn't run around to random people on the street yelling "READ THIS! READ MY BOOK! IT'S AWESOME SO YOU SHOULD TOTALLY READ IT!" Number one, it's desensitizing, two, it's annoying, and three, it's the biggest turn-off to your work for me. So the short of it is this--if you annoy me to read it, I won't. I simply delete those messages from my inbox.
I would also like to say this: Though I am new to this site, I am not new to the HarperCollins writing website family. I am a member of Inkpop as well. I do not read the works of people who leave requests in my inbox to do so unless those people have taken the time to read my work.

Not The Ordinary Kind

KME Knight

After tragedy strikes, three teens set off to discover a world kept hidden.

The magical community splintered, but the inexplicable disturbances continue. The fact that magic was not welcome in the Hawthorne family home was no news to Aveline or her sisters. After her near-disastrous birthday celebrations, she is left feeling more secluded from her family than ever before. Tragedy strikes one summer afternoon, and Aveline finds herself on the run with her emotionally unstable younger sister, Elise, and the mysterious Flynn Fisher. As they continue to run from their mysterious pursuers, they are saved along the way by Aveline’s enigmatic Uncle Phineas and learn that far darker forces are behind the attacks. These dark forces claim the life of one of their own group, and the trio must accept that even they cannot survive alone in this dangerous world.

These Dark Waters and Dusty At....

K.M.E. Knight

She jumped, the world went dark.

Victoria Stuart finds a tattered leather-bound journal in her family’s attic. She discovers it once belonged to her great grandmother, Ruby. Soon after, she begins to see sights of a teenage girl, soaking wet and in clothing of another time. Victoria begins to dream of the ocean near her house. Of drowning. She begins reading the diary she found. She must discover why this silent spirit haunts her. As she reads the diary of her great-grandmother, she learns the very sinister secrets that someone had taken a painstaking amount of time and effort to cover up, and the further she gets in the mystery the more dangerous her own involvement becomes.
