about me

I'm an american from California, though I've been living in England for the last six years. My mother is italian, so culturally I am... confused! I enjoy reading at home while my cat tries to sit on the pages.

I always return reads, and am happy to back books that I think have an interesting idea in them, or some promise! Which defines most of the books here!

Bluebird

Giulietta M. Spudich

A heart-wrenching tale of a lost love, and a ghost who wants a second chance ...

Christine is a modern-day highschool junior who loves to dance. Her introverted personality is getting in her way, especially in drama class. When she meets Rick, a native american student new to the school, she begins to get in touch with her own past. He draws her out. And he seems strangely familiar.

Meanwhile the ghost of Bluebird watches ...

Centuries ago, Running Bear and Bluebird were forbidden lovers. She took her life, leaving Running Bear to live out his days broken-hearted, and leaving her to unwillingly haunt the descendants of her family. Can this restless ghost find peace?

This flows well. You could tighten up the writing in places. The story comes through. The characters could be better described (Cami, Eli, Holden). I can't quite see them. I felt the first part had too many 'I statements'. You could make the first paragraph tighter- the message would still get... view book

Reaper's voice sounds real, and he's both endearing and 'cool' enough to be a bounty hunter (did remind me a bit of Blade Runner- definately not a bad thing!) The bots-gone-bad is a great premise, and the post-climate-change world is a good setting. I enjoyed what I read! Backed. view book

A clever idea and creative read. I liked the pitch- it drew me in to reading a chapter or two. The writing could be a bit more dynamic if you cut down on beginning sentences with 'I' ('I look down ... I often sit ...') You could start sentences a little differently (instead of 'I often sit' you co... view book

A coming-of-age novel showing us a period of history that ties into the lives of many europeans and americans alike. Lovely title, and the lilting irish conversation is a nice touch. Thanks for the read. view book

Chapter 3 is masterful- great conversation, realistic characters, a sense of needing to forget something. We are left wondering what happened in the past, at the end of Ch 3, and also wondering when the ghost will arrive on the scene. Nicely written. Ch 2 seemed a little out of place, and the sen... view book
