I’m a journalist — a reporter for a mid-sized newspaper in Oregon’s Willamette Valley — who thought it would be fun to make up the story for a change. So I’ve penned a mystery novel involving a small-town reporter investigating corruption in city hall who gets in over her head. I grew up behind a book and have never lost my passion for reading, but this passion for writing runs a close second. First six chapters of completed novel posted.
Old School by Tobias Wolff, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway.

In Chapter one, you do a good job of inner dialogue -- it's clear there's some sort of cooling between Hal... view book

Thanks Sharon for putting Bending the Rules on your list -- interesting that we've each got a Kate with Irish surname -- and sounds like they might have similar personalities -- looking forward to reading your first chapter tonight. - PJ view book
Hi Ali, I really appreciate your comments on the opening pages of Bending the Rules. That is precisely the atmosphere I was trying to create -- setting up the peaceful small town setting before the action takes over the story. I'm glad you enjoyed that approach. And now I’m taking the opportunity to... view book
