about me

I have been writing since 1992 and have been published in various venues: online, magazines, and short story books.I wrote this memoir at first as a healing mechanism for my own self. I soon discovered by having others read it, that it could be used as healing and strength for those that might be suffering as I did for so many years. The experience taught me well that God has a specific purpose and plan for each of his children. It is only through his guidance that we find how fulfilling and strengthening even the bad things in our lives can be.

So excited to be meeting so many nice people on Authonomy. To my first two friends and the best in the world, Joe (Rupee Millionaires) and Fran (Trapped) I am becoming more entranced with it daily. I have added another book to God's Gracious Gift. The Curse was written at first in 1992 after my brain surgery (for real) and I had to write a novel for a writing class. It has evolved over the years but never was really marketed much because frankly publishers are interested in a 600 page book by a major unknown recuperating from brain surgery :)

I wrote The Curse because of the many stories my mom told me about my grandmother coming to America in 1913 as a very young girl. It has evolved from there with fictional characters that drew from my own life. After picking it up again after 10 years, I thought it might be worthwhile getting some feedback on it.

I'm having so much fun. Thanks to everyone and my good buddies.

I read a great many memoirs, two of which stick in my mind: Julie Andrews - Home and The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.

God's Gracious Gift - Why Coin....

Joy Eastman

People often believe life is a book filled with luck or coincidence. Read the book to discover how each chapter is written by God.

I was born fat and bald. My mother took one look at me and screeched, “That’s not my baby!” My previous siblings had been beautiful, with rosy cheeks and black curly hair. Finally, my mother noticed my dimples and immediately changed her mind. I was hers after all.

Timid and shy, I was afraid of most things, but more than anything I hated the poverty in which we lived. I determined to put it behind me as I grew to be an adult. My resolve caused impulsive decisions that would propel me down a slippery slope with little hope of climbing out of the abyss.

I was bitter and angry when my daddy abandoned our family. He went on his way without a care in the world until he received the phone call telling him that I was dying. Even then he could only send his prayers which were of little comfort as I was a stranger to him. It was then that my Father in Heaven stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the ballpark.

The Curse - Can a Virtuous Wom....

Joy Eastman

Can a deathbed curse linger from generation to generation. How can it ever be stopped?

What does it mean when a family is torn asunder by lies and injustice? One woman breaks a deathbed promise to her father and a curse is uttered. Kaja's life is shattered in a million pieces and she and the generations that follow are left without a glimmer of hope.

The Curse follows her life and that of her daughter Marty and her daughters, Stacy and Katherine. The story is based on my own grandmother's journey to America and one that my mother often shared with me. Many of the events in the book are based on real life happenings.

Stacey, the book's main character, has convinced herself that she must put an end to this terrible curse before it also destroys her own daughter's happiness. As her sanity crumbles after the untimely death of her sister, Stacey seeks the help of renowned psychiatrist, Gregg Phillips.

Together they journey back in time using a unique method of hypnosis. Stacey discovers the secret of the mysterious curse lies only in the mind of its victims.

Just from reading the first chapter I can tell this has the makings of a beautiful and meaningful story. You capture the mood of Christina and her relationship to her father along with her ideals of the world he was forced to leave behind. You have brought new meaning to the words --- remember. Your story of a young girl and her mother with their many struggles is heartfelt and touching. I'm wondering if the book is fiction or perhaps based on a true life story. The events protrayed seem so real. Great job on that. I know I wrote my memoir, God's Gracious Gift, to tell a true story but... view book
