The Road House Blues

Dan S. Hinton

Alcohol... Beautiful women... Hot music... It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it, poetry to soothe the soul - just get past 'Cooler'...

This is an assortment of poetry I wrote up against a barstool, while watching the lights being kicked out of some bad blood. In the rough corners of a roadhouse anything goes. Poetry mixed with hard rock roadhouse blues and a couple of tequilas this is poetry to sharpen any soul's soft edges:

It don’t matter who you listen to
It don’t really matter what they say
The truth of the matter is
It could all get blown away.
It doesn’t matter who you are
However strong you think you be
It could get blown away
All but instantly
Cherish yesterday, cos about tomorrow
You can only ever dream
It may not ever come your way
Live for today or so it seems
This world is rough and heavy
You don’t get no easy breaks here
Maybe a broken leg, hurt pride
And a free shot of tequila for ya fear

~It Could All Get Blown Away

White Scorpion

Dan S. Hinton

STAND YOUR CORNER! BEWARE THE STING IN THE TAIL... Poetry that's amour-plated and packs a sting! Heavily pregnant or of a nervous disposition, stepaway now...

GUTSY! BRAVE! poetry not for the easily offended, or those with a weak heart condition, forgive me for the few errors and the irregular rhyme, the world doesn't play to that kind of beat.

I took down what I could remember as a travelling man, beaten by broken wings, wandering through this hell, and the rest is lost to the winds of time and to the delirium of the unforgiving outback. I give you this collection of poetry, far from the urinal walls of inner London, but of which I am equally proud.
Welcome to the Jungle, punks...

Evil walks and it walks well
But don’t count yourself out
Show you can drink from reserves
When they put you through drought

And switch off, turn their backs on you
To try and make you alone starve
Or to mess with your mind so that
You end up tearing yourself in half

Don’t let them do it folks, don’t let them take the piss
Just grease your knuckles, grit your teeth, say: suck on this.

~Evil Walks~

White Scorpion is a thing of beauty under the tough exterior, just watch out for the sting in the tail...

It's People Like You (That Giv....

Dan S. Hinton

Raw! Short! From the heart! You've read this far, so you've got to read on. Comedy, modern-life, problems with the fairer sex? Step right in...

More public urinal scribblings with one kick ass arrow-through-the-heart tattoo
on the door. Here's to those good nights sat drinking, writing and just saving
the few thoughts that I could to compile an anthology. Hopefully meaner and
sharper than the last. My only aim was to ban the censors, welcome to Purgartory,
Virgils...

"The fear of a broken heart
The fear of an open flame
But if you take out all the danger
Surely it’s not the same

Much like the volatile
Burns, boiling lover’s heart
Unlimited sex-drive counts for nothing
When you go back to the start

In the long term that’s not important
What embers love scatters
Lust is soon in, soon out smiling
How you walk through the fire, is all that matters."

(How Well You Walk Through The Fire)

Took a lot of courage to get this stuff up here and even more courage when my friends find out some of it's about them!

Dedicated especially to Issy and Danielle, with Dani who gave me the euphoric highs, and Issy with whom I discussed the cataclysmic lows. Without you two, I would not have been able to follow either path as zealously as I did.

The ASBO Anthology of Poetry

Dan S. Hinton

GRITTY. TOUGH. FROM THE STREETS. If you like poetry that makes you feel good and rhymes, step away now. The truth? Step right on in...

Verses are like people, they are not perfect, sometimes we need to relieve ourselves now and then. Just like every man needs to take a piss now and then, or to take the piss then and now.

These poems are a collection of verses I've collected over the course of a lifetime spent doing both. In some cases I was lucky enough to copy down the attached drawings. But in a few cases I wasn't sure which drawing went with which poem. I would apologise, but I was drunk at the time and doubt there could be any remedy to this sad state of affairs. Of course with the passing of time, wisdom and age have crept up on me despite my attempts to avoid both. And it is with some small pinch of pride I present these verses to you now."

"If you could score a goal when it’s right in front of you
And everyone’s blaming it on you,
If you could accept the blame, when all men doubt you,
But can understand their doubting too"

If (Only We Could Win The World Cup)

They aren't always nice, they aren't always pretty, but they've got an ASBO!

A very good story and you obviously know what you are talking about. The dialogue is short and it is therefore fast paced, I can see this type of novel appealing to people who want to escape the world of reality. :) view book

i find myself becoming more and more attracted to the vulgarity of Dogge, he reminds me of a young Bukowski in someways, living life on the edg (the lower the better) when he is talking about the women who interviewed him, the way that he describes her is typical of how a man would talk. You explore... view book

I find your writing is some what apocalyptic, and from a gothic point of view, that is just what you want to keep the reader's attention. The story is quick and fast paced so as to keep the reader's interest sustained. I think your novel is very good, and while my bookshelf is somewhat congested at ... view book

hi you certainly have something red and hot blooded from your experience, I can see the rawness in your writing too which you pointed out in mine. I'm not sure what I like best - if i had to say it would be the uncompromising way in which you tell your story. No-holds barred. I like that sort of ... view book
