about me

Born close to the equator in Kenya I seem to have been moving northwards ever since; I am now living in Finland. Next stop the Arctic Circle!

Writing is a hobby (language editing academic papers is my fourth and hopefully last career).

There is still no obligation to read anything I have written before asking me to read yours :-)

NB! I am currently language editing a 75,000 word Doctoral Thesis with a 6-week deadline so I am unavailable for critiques until early April 2009.

'e lin' began with setting two parameters for myself: (1) don't copycat (2) avoid as many of the core icons of the fantasy genre as possible.

Given the saturation of the genre this seemed and still seems genuinely difficult to achieve.

favourite books

Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable.
Tolkien - The Hobbit
Bruce Chatwin - In Patagonia
Terry Pratchett - The Dark Side of the Moon
Hemingway - The Old Man and the Sea

Hi, it's kind of difficult to empathise with 'Pride and Joy' in the current format. I have read Chapters 1-7 and confess to being confused and more than a trifle irritated. The confusions stem from: (a) The pitch - I adore 'Pride and Prejudice' but cannot see any link between Austen's tale... view book

I'm having a brainstorm in backing an incomplete book but hey! the potential is wonderful and I do want to see how Munro is 'pushed' into the other camp :-) view book

Hi Freddie, It's difficult to write the kind of review that I think your idea demands when it's incomplete. The strongest comment I shall make is that I can't see any publisher prepared to take the gamble of going with a comic novel titled 'Honor Killing'. I think you also need to revi... view book
