about me

Hmmm. Let's see. Well, I'm an event planning, country living, freelance writer that loves to garden, cook and read (of course). I have a dog and two cats and am (always) in the process of renovating my old country house. Since I have 3 1/2 acres, I spend a lot of time mowing the lawn or fixing something.

Although I've probably been paid to write in one way or another for 20 years ... things like the script for the M.C.'s of the Canadian athlete's party at the Nagano Olympics ... or for news anchors hosting the opening of the National Trade Centre in Toronto, it wasn't till I sold articles to magazines that I ever dreamed I might actually be able to write for a living.

And of course, that still hasn't happened.

I stilll have to produce shows - or Stage Manage - or book talent and organize logistics to pay the bills. However, a recent employer, while unceremoniously ushering me out the door suggested nicely, that perhaps I should write a book. So, thought I'd give it a whirl.

After going to a critque session, and reading some of the comments placed on this site (thank you all!) I am now on my second go-through of the book. I've posted the new and improved first 6 chapters. To say it's a work in progress is putting things mildly.

I don't ask anyone to back or read my book - but I hope they will anyway. If I back your book, I will read at least a chapter (sometimes more) and do my best to comment if I have anything constructive to say. It would be great if you feel so inclined to do the same ... but hey, I completely realize that, after going through dozens of books on here ... commenting may be the last thing on your list of things you want to do.

I've seen some really talented writing on here. I wish everyone luck in their quest to get published ... or just to become better writers.

The Dreamings

Karen Cummings

Caleigh Camel's dreams have suddenly become real. As she deciphers their messages she must choose her destiny - saving the planet, love or her life.

Following the death of her father, an environmental journalist, Caleigh Camel inherits the “gift” that not only allows her to communicate with and track others in her dreams, but a position on an international council charged with saving the planet from environmental devastation.

Messages from Caleigh’s ancestors conspire with her new found council responsibilities to make each day more meaningful … and far more dangerous.

But when the man of her dreams becomes real, she struggles to define her purpose. Why her? Why now? Is she meant to save the world, or follow her heart?

I'm always jealous of people who can write as though they're from another era ... in another far away place. I guess it's a little like acting and wrapping yourself in a new character that, for some anyway, seems to be as easy as changing your clothes. Some really beautiful stuff here ... alth... view book

Fantastic use of style change for affect. Captures age appropriate character - as well as illustrating the scene, the mood and emotiion incredibly well. Great stuff. view book

Great writing. You have a "less is more" style that's really working for you. Only crit I'd have is really only my opinion - and that is I think its not necessary to mention the "spark of caring" for the girl at the beginning ... think you accomplish the attraction without having to say it ... and... view book
