about me

Magistrum’s Lair is an 120,000 word fantasy novel with a romantic twist, the first in the Sword Mistress series.

I have a B.A. in Performance Theatre, a M.A. Speech & Mass Communications and an M.S.E. in Marriage & Family Counseling. Currently, my husband I run a business out of our home (which has nothing to do with any of my degrees) and spend every free moment either writing, revising, or reading. I tend to read five or six novels at a time.
I have two boys (3 and 6), two dogs, and two cats.

I used to write detective stories for my friends when I was a kid. I completed a novella out of the detective story and turned it into a screenplay pilot for my Thesis Project. Then wrote a second screenplay as a follow up episode. I wrote a few articles for my college newspaper. I worked at various writing projects for the next few years, but nothing really took off. I couldn’t get excited about anything I was working on.

One night my son woke me up in the middle of a dream that gave me an idea for a novel. After putting him back to bed I ran down stairs to take notes so I wouldn’t forget. The next day I started writing Into The Master’s Lair. I wrote every day for the next three months and completed a very rough manuscript. That was about four years ago. Since then I have worked to polish Into The Master’s Lair, have completed a first draft of the second novel in the series Mistress of the Sword and am half way through the third book, The Master’s Revenge. I’ve completed the first book in a second series which is currently called Prophesy of the Dragon Queen, but I’ve thinking on changing it. I’m have way through the second book in that series.

I’ve spent the last ten years writing, reading, and studying the craft. I’ve read over 130 fantasy novels, my favorite genre, dozens in other genres, over twenty books on the craft.

Into The Master's Lair is a complete novel at 120,000 words.

Laurie A Will

Lauriana must enter Magistrum's Lair and survive before her home world and the one she's trapped in are destroyed.

Trapped in a parallel world, attorney Lauriana Langhart is the key to a wizard's immortality. Embittered by his tragic past, Magistrum taunts her in dreams and plans to make her his pawn.

Mikell, a ranger, trains Lauriana to survive the perils ahead. He has dreamed about Lauriana most of his life. He fights to keep his feelings for her a secret and keep his haunted past from putting her in mortal danger.

Lauriana must defeat Magistrum before the gods will allow her to return home. She must save the world and reconcile her feelings between the love she left behind and the feelings she’s developed for Mikell. One choice will condemn both worlds, the other save them.

TRM, It was hard to choose from the two books, but I finally decided on The Ratter’s Tale probably because the cover reminds me of a nightmare I had a child that I can still see so vividly. I walked down the basement steps in dark and at the bottom of the steps was a rat with red eyes that was tw... view book

David, I liked the Jung quote in the beginning. I think it sets the tone for The Civil Unrest quit nicely. Although this wouldn't be my first choice of genre to read I really enjoyed what I read. I love the voice you use. I think it's a style that not many can pull off. Most people when they try ... view book

David, Looked at the first five chapters, all and all very well done. I found it a little unbelievable that this boy conveniently died when his captures came to check on him and the came back to life after they left. Although if he is going to grow up to become a sadistic killer then we often att... view book

Again, sorry for the delay. You have a good solid premise and your writing flows well. Interesting start with the prologue. Consider starting with the second paragraph, it's much more engaging than the first one and the first one really serves no purpose except to tell us how hot it is and where the... view book

Lisa, Love the premise. You have a good grasp of the historical aspects. I would caution you against starting your novel with dialogue. The reader doesn’t know the character yet and doesn’t have must interest in what he has to say yet. Also the first dialogue is so long and doesn’t give the reade... view book
