about me

I'm 6 years old and I live in rural England with my Mum, Dad, younger sister Becca and a lunatic beagle called Jake.

Someone once said that I was very advanced for my ears.

Naturally, I had misheard them but for quite some time, I had concerns that my ears were holding me back and preventing me from realising my full potential.

I would catch glimpses of my reflection in shop windows and wish I had different ears and wondered why they couldn’t be more like my other features, such as my nose, eyes or mouth.

My little sister Becca didn’t help my paranoia.

No one had ever accused Becca of being very advanced for her ears. In fact, quite the opposite. People often commented how her ears should really be pinned back before they caused a serious accident. That was shortly after one ear had carelessly flopped into the road resulting in a 20 mile tail back and planes having to be re-routed to Paris.

In church, her ears were greeted with awe and wonderment as the congregation exclaimed “Jesus! Look at the size of those!”

Anyway, I digress, I would ideally like to give up school, move to Provence on the proceeds of my books and play with lego all day.

My other works include:

Graffiti on the bathroom wall
Numerous abstract paintings
An installation art piece entitled ‘Messy Bed & Clothes on Floor’

Admittedly, I can’t take all the plaudits for my book myself. Some credit must go to my Dad who helped quite a bit but only with the typing, editing, story lines and humour.

Everything else was me. Well, Becca helped too.

My Dad is called Neil.

Life in the Corner has had two entries previously published by HarperCollins in March 2008 as part of their Go Create Non-fiction and Media Pack, a teaching resource for Key Stage Three English (11-14). The entries were considered as good examples to illustrate the idea of creating a persona in a blog.

Life in the Corner

Matthew

A humorous account of life through the eyes of a child who is spending more and more of his time in the naughty corner.

My name is Matthew. I'm two-and-a-half years old and I tend to be quite naughty.

I have a mum, a dad and an 11 month old baby sister, Rebecca (or Becca as Mum and Dad prefer to call her, or Annoying as I prefer to call her).

I seem to spend a lot of my time in the naughty corner. I'm not sure why but whilst I try to reach a conclusion on this and many of life's other mysteries, I'd thought I document my adventures in this book.

Matthew.

Fantastic premise, read the first two chapters late last night, shelved for now to read more later. Good luck with it. view book

Hey JC, read through your first two chapters. Nice action sequences, kept the pace up. Added background in the second chapter - just what is this accountant doing running round with a gun anyway - kept my interest levels up. Nit pick - the phrasing in the paragraph incl 'the room temperature water t... view book

Hi Chalie, loved this, loved the 'down to earth-ness' of it all, the mundane (filling up a kettle chained to the wall, a spy named Barry) next to the world of espionage. Agent coming off maternity leave - fab. All the reality we don't get with an episode of 24! Made me smile. On my shelf, for sure. ... view book

Hi TL, I found your first 2 chapters enticing and enthralling. What a great original, premise and some of the detail hints at the richness of the story to come. Chapter one provides a neat intro to the works and powers of soul protectors whilst informing us that Devon is not alone in his job role. ... view book

Hi Lynn, I read straight through your first four chapters - your character Naomi is quite addictively awful and keeps you wanting to read further- particularly given your pitch. The book is funny and well written, I love some of the language like your description of Naomi's eyes and hair in chapter ... view book
